Curious if anyone knows why some Tacomas qualified for frame replacement and others did not. I have a 2003 TRD SR5 that did not and cannot seem to get an answer. I love the truck and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. It runs and performs excellent but now will not pass inspection due to frame rot.

You’re on your own for the frame. Post pics. Safe-T-Cap is what people are using

Welcome to TW. My recollection is that replacements had to occur within 12 years of the “in-service date”. Yours was probably eligible until 2015 or so? I’m sure there will be more info forthcoming…

Welcome to TW! You’re outside the 12 year frame warranty and also, location is a factor. The warranty only covers states in the salt belt.

Recommend you check out the first gen forum, lots of info on the famous tacoma rusty frame's.

I cut and pasted the below from the first gen buyer's guid.

    Peter in San Antonio

Frame Rust:The BIGGEST thing to check is the frame. “You want to inspect for severe rust, especially in the rear where the rear spring shackle meets the frame and the rear tire carrier. Look for loose metal and holes. If you see anything like that, walk away.” -98tacoma27

813,000 trucks are included in the 1995-200 buyback program for rusty frames.

It’s a 20 year old truck. You can’t really expect them to cover anything for that long…

They didn't just replace the frames. They had to fail inspection.
It was up to the owner to take it in and have it inspected.
It was best to do this when you seen the frame was failing.
Or the year before the warranty was up. (if the frame "looked" ok.

Once inspected, it passed. And you were on your own.
