    Hey friends,

I'm trying to get the big plastic clip/housing off of the factory wiring harness for the starter/alternator runs. I can't quite tell how it comes apart and I don't want to just tear it off. I've looked through as many writeups and even youtube videos as I can, but everyone seems to gloss over that part.

Does anyone have an explanation, or better yet, pictures, on how the tabs/clips work to get this thing apart?

    Thanks!

Your trying to remove the male plug on the wiring harness side ?

Should be a clip that pushes down if it still is stock.

Sometimes they get stubborn and a heat gun helps

Or the female plug that is part of the voltage regulator ?

Nope, I'm referring to this guy (as seen from the angle you'd see it along the driver's side of a 1GR-FE, down where you can't reach it at all):

And it's held together by five surface clips:

I ended up only being able to get it off by removing the entire wire harness, brackets and all, from the engine bay.

In the process of replacing my harness, the tabs on the metal support bracket were corroded off (The bracket that's bolted to the side of the alternator) that this plastic raceway snaps onto.
I was unable to locate the replacement bracket. Contacted my local dealer (Imperial Toyota, Milford, MA), and the parts guy was extremely helpful. The parts catalog, at least for the Tacoma, is no help at all. He came up with prints, 4 pages, that depict thumbnail sized images of all wiring harness clamps and printed them out for me. There were about 100 images, but was able to find it. If you need one, the P/N is 82715-04130

I think I did the same as you - removed the alt and starter harness to remove that cover. I upgraded the cables and used heat reflective tape to protect the wiring in same area as that plastic cover.
