Hey guys, I just bought a 2009 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab SR5 with less than 40,000 miles on it. I'm stoked because I've been looking to get a Tacoma for a few years now. I love the truck, but I've got a question about the look of it. You can see the picture of my truck below to see what I have, but I like the slightly more rugged look of the truck like the example at this link shows: http://gtcarlot.com/colors/car/22979103-2.html

Is the difference in style that the truck in the link has fender flares while mine doesn't? I'd love it if I could somehow modify my truck to look like the truck in the link. 20240311_111702.jpg 20240311_111835.jpg

The truck you linked to is a 4wd (PreRunners (2wd) also have the same suspension), yours is a 5 lug base. The suspension setup is totally different between the 2 plus PreRunner and 4wd trucks have fender flares.

5 lug trucks can be lifted but from what I understand there isn't nearly as many options as there are for 6 lug (PreRunner and 4wd) trucks.

There's a dedicated section to 5 lug trucks here.

    All the time!!!
Mainly all you can do on yours is a lift, and different wheels and tires, they don’t have that many options for the five lugs. The options for the 6 lugs are nearly endless, and you can nearly never get finish adding stuff. It’s a very expensive habit to get started on, or is for me anyway!

5 lug,not much you can do,the truck won't be rugged looking, your truck is for driving around town.
You should of researched the different Tacomas before buying.

it looks more rugged because it is more rugged. Whether it has flares or not.
    They come with bigger wheels.

I believe the frame in terms of suspension geometry and mounting is also different. Not very changeable.
OP truck rear is also SUA vs. SOA.

mods are done so the truck can "do that" and "go there"
    not "look"

It's not the flares, it's the stance. Look at the wheel.and tire size. Huge difference between 5-lug and 6-lug. The wheel/tire combo, suspension and chassis are nothing alike

    Nice looking truck.
I know someone who bought a 5 lug Tacoma and spent lots of money to make it look just like a 4X4 model.
They traded it soon after for an actual 4X4 because the 5 lug truck took a hit on power with the bigger tires and just didn't ride that well.
    Good luck with yours.
