Would like some advice. I have a 2021 TRD Sport 4wd (white), the lease on it ends in July. When I go this truck I wanted a fire engine red, now the 2024 has come out with red. I can buy out my white truck or get one of the new ones in red... this will probably be my last new vehicle. So I have looked at the TRD Sport (love it) but the price is way to high, the SR5 4WD isn't bad and I could probably get it much cheaper than the TRD Sport 4WD. So can y'all give me your thoughts. I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!!

Depending on your long term finances and whether or not you can afford life, if this is going to be your last truck ever, go for it and get a new one.

SR 4WD is a good value vehicle. I haven’t fully reviewed all the trim differences but you can find heaps of discussion here in the 4th Gen sub forum.

It probably mostly hinges on the lease buyout numbers vs availability and markup in July. It’s a reasonable bet that you’ll have options by then but I wouldn’t lock yourself in, availability of lower priced models in a specific color may be the hardest part. If you’re willing to travel to a dealership farther away, that could help expand the search.

    Toyota likes white and silver.

ETA: You might also run rough numbers on buying the lease and holding for a year then private party sale to buy the 4th gen. These trucks hold value well, so that’s one possible way to potentially insulate yourself from dealer markups on the redesigned 4th gen.

Tacomas tend to lease with high interest and high residual. The buyout of your lease might not be terribly less than what it was brand new. Lookup your lease buyout and see what it is. Probably something in the low 30s I would guess based on what you said. Just depends on if you want to keep yours for that price, or go with a 24.

An SR5 4x4 with a few options is only going to be 3-5K less than the Sport and TRD OR. I wouldn't go into it thinking that going to be really a lot cheaper.

IMO, paid off vehicles are best, vehicles are a necessary money pit.

i would not buy the first year of the 4G, or any vehicle. hang onto the '21 for now and revisit this in '25 or '26.

Most of the answers you seek come down to your personal finances, and weighing your own subjective needs, like features, and color.

Buying out the truck you have is a better financial deal that offers you less risk regarding long-term reliability. Peace of mind in knowing exactly what you have already is a feeling that’s difficult to monetize, but arguably no less valuable than say, a color preference, as an example.

Either way you go, don’t feel compelled to make a final decision anytime soon. Gen4 prices combined with the current market trends signal that substantial year-end deals are likely to come. Let other people get mowed down financially early on. Plus, they’re happy to work out all of the “QC hold” items for you. Good luck

Well the obvious answer assuming you want to lease again, is to lease a supersonic red 4th gen with as many MSDs as you can afford, then use those as a down payment in the future if you want to keep it.

Also not sure where you are but you can find trucks at or below MSRP if you shop around and don't mind traveling

Second this, and not just for the usual first model year quality concerns. If OP is patient, they can wait for the initial demand to drop and wait for Toyota to start offering incentives.

Not to mention, it’s better than it was a year ago, but the car market is still a wreck. Plenty of dealerships are still doing markups like it’s 2022. Wait and interest rates on loans will come down, too.

If you do go with a 4th Gen make sure it has all the features you expect. I was surprised to learn not all 4th Gens have power seats and a sliding rear window. Somebody on YouTube said not all tailgates have a dampening down feature.

Don’t buy the new 4th gen just yet … issues are starting to arise with them . I would sit on your current truck till the problems get resolved . Maybe the market will settle down a little on them next year .
