My Taco was minding it's own business

Monday morning my Tacoma was parked out in front of our townhouse minding it's own business when my neighbor, who is in her 20s or early 30s and is just learning how to drive, was backing out of a parking place behind the Tacoma and hit the gas in her little Kia instead of the brake. If you didn't know, FWD cars rapidly get out of control when the steering wheel is turned while the car is in reverse and when the skinny pedal is mashed to the floor.

Per my neighbor's RING camera, her car was basically sideways when it hit the back of my truck; her mirror broke off and got pinned between the A pillar and my tailgate. Yesterday I drove it to a collision repair place and WOW, the number if error and warning messages constantly popping up is SUPER annoying. Apparently all of the rear sensors were damaged and the wiring harness has been partially severed.

I just got the estimate, $8,079.73!

Sucks this happened, but the estimate sounds right. Good time to upgrade to the Pro tails :)

Interestingly the bedside must have temporarily bowed out on impact, knocking your fuel door open.

So what will you do with the repair money? :gossip:

    Wow...$8000 for that

I hope she has insurance. If not, then I hope you have full coverage.

Around here, probably at least 30% of motorists are uninsured (I deliberately avoided the term "drivers" because most of them turn into complete morons behind the wheel of a vehicle).

Good time for an aftermarket bumper upgrade. I hit a deer and am having a front steel bumper installed. Minus the cost of the OEM parts that I don't need for the new bumper it's almost even. Lemonade from lemons.

And the labor to install it ....

OP, I feel for you. I had a near hit maybe a month ago. I had my trucked parked adjacent to the corner of a four-way intersection facing east, away from the intersection. The east-west street had a stop signs. The north south street did not.

As I approached the corner on foot, I see a car on a lawn, and another in the middle of the intersection with sir bags deployed. I saw a third car when I came out from behind a tree.

Driver heading south t-boned a car heading east, took out a street sign. A car at the stop sign heading west also got involved. Don't know how. Don't know if either of the easy / west drivers actually stopped, or their faces were in a screen. All I was thinking about was the bull I'd have to through if one of these speeding asshats hit my truck. Luckily, they missed, and I was on my way.

What did I learn? Don't park on a corner anymore.

The bed side has a few wrinkles in it.

Yes, she is insured, but she initially wanted to pay cash for it; I'll see what she says when she sees the estimate.
