Replacement Info System for 2018 Limited Tacoma

I have a 2018 Limited Tacoma and the radio suddenly stopped working. It reboots constantly and in the off chance it does start up, no sound will play through the speakers at all. I had the dealership take a look at it this morning and they recommended a 800 dollar radio replacement. I am fairly new to truck mods but would like to do this myself and possibly upgrade the system. Is this possible for a beginner and any recs on replacement systems?

No. Replacing the entire shitbox sound system fixed that issue.

In all seriousness though, upgrading the head unit DID help clean up the sound a bit.

But the speakers, even the "premium" JBL that I had, were not good at all.

 

Which speakers did you go with?

 

Kicker component 6x9/2.75" tweeters in the front. Infinity Reference 6.5" in the rear. Kicker 48CWRT84 8" sub. All tied together with a 5 channel Kicker CX Series amp.

 

Did the sub fit in the stock location?

 

No, I ripped everything out. I have a sub box for the 8" behind the rear passenger. The amp is on a mount behind the rear driver.

The JBL bass is LOUD but inaccurate, and sound quality overall leaves a lot to be desired.

i went this route and then put the kicker upgrade speakers in. No amp no sub just basic system

 

Went the same route. Kicker speaker package, and Alpine 11" floating screen. All from TrailGridPro. Pretty happy with their kits, it was nice to have someone take all the thought/headaches out of the process.

Also for anyone that has to install a GPS antenna with their kit, I'm on my second stereo install (two different trucks), and I installed both under the dash with the stereo, with no reception issues.
