Hey guys, I recently enlisted in the Air Force and I PCS to Germany in a few months once I finish tech school. I'm wondering if its worth it to have my '99 shipped over or not. It's got about ~270k miles on it, 3.4l with auto Trans. I'm pretty confident it will pass their inspection. It's got factory suspension, bumpers, and drivetrain. It also passes smog in California which is where it is right now, and doesn't leak except for the trans pan which should be a relatively easy fix. From what I've read people say if you own a vehicle already then bring it with you rather than buying a new one once you get there. I would really love to keep my truck my only concern is since it's getting a little older and stacking the miles I'm worried about being able to get parts for it if anything went out. If anyone has any experience with this kind of thing I'd love to hear it

This was a long time ago, but my dad brought his car over with no issues. You can still get parts shipped to you if need be. Besides, how long to you want to keep your truck in storage, that costs too.

I'd buy a diesel Hilux and cruise in that

That would be one option. I have a place to store it for free but I'll be over there for at least 3 years and I would worry about it sitting for a long time/getting mouse infested. Plus leaving my baby behind would suck

I'd love to look for a hilux while I'm over there, plus I could bring it back afterwards. Only issue is digging into my savings even more for a new truck when I already have a perfectly good one at home! I have a few months to weight my options but I'm still leaning towards bringing it atm

Stepson was in the Navy, then the Army for almost 20 years now. Early on he had cars/trucks shipped to his location and back. Even having the military do the shipping, it was way too much money and hassle. When he moves around now he just sells them and buys another, but he has no emotional attachment to the vehicles.

Just sell it, and set that money aside.

It's an old Prerunner, not a Grand National.

I don't remember any Toyota Hiluxs over there when we were at Ramstein AFB, but that was in the early 80s.
Frequently military would buy temp cars and drive that until their rotation was over, then sell it.
It's totally possible to do a long term storage, and have someone check on it every now and then.

Nah, I'm emotionally attached. Plus I have thousands of dollars in parts for it stached away at home. Only issue is I couldn't bring those with me. That plus the good deal I got on it means I'd feel like a dumbass if I sold it

Sell the truck and save as much as you can while overseas. Enjoy yourself but don't be reckless. Recently separated after 10 years active duty

Yall should chill out. I wasn't asking if I should sell it. I don't need the money from it and I can easily just mothball it at home if I want to come back to it later. If I don't bring it with me I'll just buy some little econobox car locally. Just trying to weigh my options

This is a very chill thread, should see how some threads on here implode.

Only you can decide what to do. If you are attached and want your truck, ship it. Just know it will be require work and money to get it road worthy over there. Plus added costs in potential repairs.

My dude, you read way into our posts as it was in jest

If you thought that wasn't chill, even the chair force is gonna chew your ass up :rofl::rofl:

Don't be so sensitive; in the military, any little sign of displeasure will get you dog piled and worse

Sell it and buy a minivan. It’s a better fit for someone who joins the Air Force anyway.

i think the best option you have is to sell the truck and save the money, it would be to expensive to take it to europe
