Greetings. About 6 months ago I sold the ‘96 F250 7.3 4x4 to a buddy’s gf and been looking for a truck ever since

Originally thought about returning to the OBS Powerstroke camp but a clean Ford OBS diesel 4x4 runs in the mid to high 20’s, even beyond that quite often. Wife has urged me to get something new and order it to my specs.

Looked at the Ranger and the Canyon. All these trucks are great when new and sitting on the dealer lot. I read about GM’s transmission issues. A buddy had Chevy buy back his Colorado after the 2nd transmission failed plus bunch of other QC issues have come up. He bought a previous generation Tacoma and just ended up with a 4Runner. All highly praised.

The new Tacoma is on my radar as well. Many pluses for the Tacoma including a manual transmission and great looks. I may lease my spec’ed out version to see if there’ll be any problems that happen with first year anything. If all goes well I’ll probably buy it.

    Welcome aboard!

My brother-in-law works in the service department of a GMC dealership. He drives a 2017 Ford F150, and his wife drives a 2020 Lincoln Navigator. I told him I was getting a Tacoma, or Canyon/Canyon, or a Ranger. Without hesitation, he told me to get the Tacoma.

That’s exactly what my buddy with the Tacoma & 4Runner told me. I looked at the Ranger and the Canyon. The Canyon is a better looking truck inside and out but questionable build quality.

I’ll try to stop by a Toyota dealer to take a closer look at the Tacoma but I think that will be my ultimate choice based on the praise and the fact it’s available with a manual transmission.

I heard somewhere that there were some sort of issues with a turbo, not sure if this is just rumors. Part of the reason why I’m here.
