Alright so around 200k I replaced my front axles with some CVJ's. My passenger side diff seal developed a slow leak afterwards (currently 206k, only 2 months since 200k) so I decided to replace the seal (should have done while doing CV's). Since, it has begun to leak very bad. When installing the new seal, I was careful to not damage. I have removed it, and reinstalled it to see if I could slow it down...which it did. However, I pulled the CV out again to see if I could finally stop the leak. I have another new OEM seal. Any recommendations this time for me? I would really like to get my skid plate back on for good..at least for more than a couple weeks. Any input here is appreciated. Also, I have read into a few threads and watched some videos. None of which have helped me so far. Thanks again.

On the second gens, the depth at which you set the seal is crucial to not get a leak. I don't have any further info, but hopefully this can help narrow it down.

Not enough to have a build thread.
How did you install the new seal? Did you pack the back of it? Not sure about these, but most the axle seals I do have to be hammered into place. Sometimes this causes the spring to pop out of place (there's a small spring that holds the seal tight around the shaft). Beat way to avoid this is to pack the area where the spring goes with wheel bearing grease or trans gel. The other question I have is how did you remove it? Did you possibly gouge where the seal goes?

I replaced it already. I might have installed it incorrectly the first time so I'm wanting to make sure before I take it apart and ruin another seal.

Both sides of the seal has rubber. Can you show me the rubber side out. Do you have a pic to show me. Not trying to be difficult

Has anyone replaced the carrier bearing and the universal joints on the taco.
Feel a small vibration. Now I'm doing maintenance repairs to keep my truck smooth riding. The tires are new. Any suggestions out there. On possible issues that I might be over looking

I've done the carrier bearing but never had to do the U joints (yet). Carrier bearing is easy, but you definitely want an impact gun to take off the stake nut that holds the carrier bearing to the drive shaft. I struggled without one big time.

Hey red_3 taco, do you happen to remember the socket size to remove the carrier from the drive shaft. Don't want to get the shaft out and then find out that I need to buy a socket. Want to stay proactive without interruptions

Crap, I forget. I think it's probably a 24mm, but it's been a couple years, so don't quote me on that. I'd search YouTube for a tutorial video and they'll likely mention the size. I know I watched one a couple years ago prior to doing the job. Typically if you've got metric sockets up to 24mm you're good to go for everything on these trucks, outside of the 35mm socket for the CV axle nut (on ADD equipped trucks).

Has anyone else other than me heard about put a driveshaft spacer on the rear end of the shaft to make up the difference if the 4 inch lift on the tacoma. Haven't done it yet. Will be replacing the carrier bearing & universal jounts
