I just had my oil and filter service at my local "Oil Changes for Life" stealership. I suspect my filter was not changed. I have the TRD skid plate so you must remove the access panel to access access the filter housing. From what I can tell they did not change my filter. Is there an easy way to prove this? The oil on the dip stick appears to be new and there was clean oil residue around the access hole on the skid plate so I'm confident they at least changed the oil. If it wasn't a free service I would do it myself!

did they just "rotate" your tires ? thats what happened to me after i went in for 5k oil change. I went to check the color of the oil(i always do before and after service ) and it was the same color as before .I walked a couple of steps to service dept. and asked "why they didnt change my oil thats what i came for" they said" oh its just needs a tire rotation " lol okay thats not what i came for (suggestions) so they took my truck back and etc etc

If lifetime ass whippings were free, I'd still take a pass.
With or without evidence, I'd give the chance of the filter change 50/50, and that's probably being optimistic.

Is a “half arsed service” worth it even if it’s “free”?

    Not in my book

Maybe they just dropped the whole skid plate. I’d rather drop the skid than try and work through a small access hole.

Oh that's super unlikely. That's actually a PITA and would imply they gave a shit...

Just do it yourself. It gives you an opportunity to get under your truck and look at everything else. Buy a grease gun as well and get the nipples while your at it. It takes 1/2 an hour if you have a coffee

If you can’t change an oil filter on these trucks through that access hole, well,………I just don’t know what to say.

Usual evidence that the dealer changed the oil filter:
The access panel is installed backwards with stripped or cross-threaded screws.
The filter cap takes a 2-ft breaker bar to loosen.

Part of me is like...find the fault, catch them in a lie and roast them...the other part of me is like, I don't have time for this BS and do it myself and know it's right.

That would be my call. There is it the head running now about a guy who had replace an engine due to the dealership, the only place that ever service the truck, never changing the oil filter. It looked like it was nearly packed with grease.

There is always a cost to getting something for free.

On top of that, you went in with a heavy aftermarket skid plate installed and hoped they’d do extra work to accommodate it during a “free” service. Unfortunately the only one to blame is yourself, but at least you learned your lesson!

You don't even need a jack brother.
WAY less time, effort and likely money than getting a vehicle to the dealer for the freebie.

No shit...well luckily this is the only the 2nd or 3rd oil change since having the skid plate. I bought the truck new from this dealership and this dealership is the only place that has serviced the truck. Luckily, I've had them only do oil changes and the truck has been trouble free. 68k mi.

I have the regular splash guard and have to drop it to do my filter. I like to inspect everything and clean it up. If they are used to removing the splash guards they could just drop the skid out of habit :notsure: I’m no mechanic, nor do I work at a dealership

Yes, I've always bitched about the hassle of dropping the truck for a day for a 15 min job. I usually drop it the night before, get a ride home, get a ride back the next day. I'm going to get a Fumoto valve and start DiY'ing this.

Use a paint marker on the access panel door's bolts and the skid plate bolts. When I had mine in for maintenance they just dropped the whole skid, and I know that because I requested to go back and speak to the tech because I have a different filter housing and wanted to be sure they didn't jack it up. They might have just dropped the whole skid instead of messing with the door.
