Changing out my front bake pads , rotors and calipers because I think the piston are sticking.

Previously replaced with stock rotors and pads but vibration came back when braking after a good amount of use so I’m thinking one or both calipers are bad.

don’t know how much of a headache to rebuild calipers but I prefer just replace them .

what is everyone using these days?

thinking about just replacing with OEM calipers but changing with aftermarket rotors and pads ?

    any recommendations?

want to test the waters of finding better braking performance other than stock

All oem pads/rotors, rebuild the stock calipers. Cheap and easy

Are you trying to improve something or just restore stock performance?

Prefer to improve braking performance in general but not trying to anything extreme like upsizing rotors and calipers , etc. more aftermarket pads and rotors based on people’s experience

never rebuilt calipers not sure if it’s a pain in the ass but not worth me saving 100 bucks if it is a pain in my opinion.

prefer to change to aftermarket rotors and pads to see better braking performance. Existing performance not bad but curious to go aftermarket based on user experience

Keep in mind that braking performance is also tied to tire choice.

Stoptech slotted rotors, cryo is probably even better
    4runner BBK
Pads of your choice can include TRD ceramic
    SS lines

tundra brake master and/or booster is also popular, including whatever that upgrade entails

I went with the centric plain 120 rotors for my 2013. According to TireRack they were 17% heavier (17lbs vs 20lbs) than the Brembo. For pads I got the Carbotech 1521. I have Carbotech brakes on my track car ('02 WRX) and am happy with the brakes and the customer service. But they are very expensive.

I've had good luck with Powerstop and Raybestos reman OEM calipers.

For pads I go with Advics ceramic AD0976.

For rotors I go with Stoptech slotted or Raybestos R300 slotted.

2010-2015 4Runner brakes are an easy upgrade. Only additional expense over Tacoma parts is ~$50 for two larger dust shields. 17" or larger wheels required though.

You could upgrade to a big brake kit. If you search, a few guys did the necessary research to build a Frankenstein kit. Or go with something sold as a kit by places like stoptech. Urd has the kits cheap.

Something to keep in mind, tacos come in 2 flavors, 5 lug & 6 lug. The 5 pads have an arc shaped plate, the 6 is rectangular shaped.

Rebuilding calipers is straight forward. Remove old seals, clean, install new seals. The factory calipers are just fine for these trucks
My experience has been oem is best for brakes. Stoptech and autozone parts have not impressed me any more than factory parts. id say changing your fluid regularly and making sure they are bled properly will give you all the braking power you could want

I have a 2015 2WD AC TRD Sport. I was unhappy with the factory rotors that seemed to warp easily because of my driving style. I switched to factory 2015 4Runner rotors and calipers. It is a direct fit. The rotor is the same diameter and the same 6 lug bolt pattern but is much thicker. Factory brake pads are the same. I am very happy with the braking performance. Cost was $1400 for the parts from Toyota and with a shop install.

This is a second 4runner setup, but a good slotted with a more aggressive compound is a nice combo. If your truck is heavier, you can look into EBC pads for heavier trucks.

I ran the Stoptech slotted when I first posted about the 4runner 5th gen setup. I was about to swap to DBA 4000 slotted setup before changing to Stoptech BBK.

We do not currently stop but should have access to Powerstop kits and other brake setups. We are a dealer for SOS if you decide to go all-in on a BBK kit. https://holyhorsepower.co Shoot me a DM if interested.
