    2013 Tacoma 4x4, 4.0L V6

My son "gently" rolled the Tacoma in dirt on drivers side (no injuries). Sat on its side for 2 hours. Starter engaged, but wouldn't turn. Took the spark plugs out engine turned fine, drivers side cylinders full of oil. Siphoned out, now starts fine but now tons of white smoke (no issue with idle). On my Chevy Camero I would diagnose as valve seals. Questions
    1) any other thoughts beyond valve seals?
    2) Given engine has 130k, my assumption is that I may as well do all the timing chains and everything. You guys agree?
    3) Anyone have a cost estimate range? I like my local toyota dealer, but this may be a big one.

    Thanks in advance.

Probably pushed some oil into the cat. Gonna take a while for it to burn out.

Siphoned out? Should have cranked the engine with plugs out. Valve stems seals do not go bad from half a rollover. It’s probably just burning off all the oil that got in past the piston rings

Why would the seals fail from this event?

You've cleared the cylinders of oil. You have no knocks

    Check all fluid levels

Drive it and see what happens. Doubtful anything will explode.

I actually did do this.. first manually.. and once the oil went all over I realized it was full after manual turn on crank shaft.. then siphoned.. then I engaged started with no spark plugs. I only let it run for about 30 sec.. I guess I should run a bit longer. Why seals? My only guess is that when I tried to engage starter with the cylinder full of oil that is over pressurized the seal.

Thanks a bunch.. it idles like normal.. just tons of smoke. I only ran it for 30 sec.. you are right.. after checking fluids again I should let is run for a few min. Just didn't want to damage. This is new territory for me.

Just run it. It'll be fine.

    would you siphon out
    Yes
And dry crank no start with plugs pulled to force any liquid out of the cylinders to prevent hydrolock

same thing happens if someone overfills engine oil. Ton of white smoke until it burns off. Obviously you still want to make sure the level is adjusted to spec and not overfill.

running more than a second over full on oil will eventually cause damage. For one, too much oil gets hit by the crank into an aerated mixture that fails to lubricate where a film of oil is needed.

The valves are closed on the compression stroke. But since fluids essentially can’t be compressed, what you should be worried about are the rods…

You just need to run it longer, it’ll take way more than 30 seconds to burn all the oil off. Perhaps new spark plugs too if they got oil fouled

Thanks everyone. You guys are awesome. It seems it was oil in the Catalytic converter.. smoked decreased over about 40 min. Now my fun part of the story. I bought this 2013 tacoma for around $19k.. now 11 yrs old w/ 130k miles and the insurance company totaled it for $21k. Only thing wrong with this gently rolled tacoma was drivers side front fender and door (and side airbags). So Obviously I bought it back.. so I got my truck and $17k to go fix it. Runs fine, no alignment issues, no fluid leaks. I love this truck!

Man I wish all my investments performed like this tacoma.. what a fantastic truck for resale.. and for repair.
