I was going to bleed the brakes on my Tacoma, 2019 TDR sport, and decided to search Tacoma world for any info before I did. Then I found the threads about the ABS system and how you can bleed the brakes without some software, others that say to use a reverse system, and the printout that was posted on how to do it. My question is, is it possible to bleed the brakes on a third gen Tacoma without any special software or pumps?

Yes, I have a couple times.

Typically you only start having to get fancy if you introduce air into the system by either running the reservoir low or allowing air to be sucked in through a bleeder due to poor bleeding practises.

Even then though there are ways to get it out without doing a software bleed. Not as easy or quick of course but still doable.

You have a Sport so you should be able to do a standard bleed process.

If you had an Off-Road or Pro, you would need to put the truck 'on' in order to bleed the rears due to the electronic controlled rear brake system that the Taco's with lockers have.

Awesome, thank you! I kept finding info on the off road/ pro but couldn’t tell if it was all TDR’s. I was about to do the normal bleeding when I found the Tacoma write up about having the truck in the on position and pumping the break, the opening the bleeder etc… and a few write up about it not working. Then non of the normal you tube channels I use to how to’s had anything about bleeding the brakes for 3rd gen which made me more concerned.
