IMG_2317.jpg IMG_2318.jpg So I was backing up at night and accidentally backed up on top of a ball hitch of a trailer. Took my bumper off and looks like some pieces snapped. (Only back right bumper damaged)

Attached is the current state of my bumper. Any idea on how much this will cost to fix? Appreciate any comments and I definitely need to be more observant at night.

I guess, just be thankful you didn't run over a bunch of orphans getting off the nunnery bus after visiting Jesus. That would be a sure ticket to... You don't wanna know.
Shouldn't be too much... Probably less than your insurance deductible anyway. Chalk it up to 'Boy o' boy... Was I stupid that one night??'

If you plan to do the repair yourself, check out this link. Post #22 has a good write-up. Post #5 has an exploded view of parts.

I have the camera and will still probably end up doing it at some point! :annoyed: I wonder why these things are even called bumpers, touch them and they go to pieces, then again, I suppose that is sort of what they are designed to do....

Keep us posted, if it were me, that has steel plate bumper written all over it....as others have mentioned. That being said, I am very interested in your cost to repair. I've already smacked a taillight plowing, if the tree leaned the other way, it would have tagged the bumper.

Addictive Desert Designs is my favorite, but pricey.

Well aware and have been keeping up, but thanks for the heads up. It sounds like the new owners are making good on producing and shipping orders that were made before they purchased the company. If they keep it up, I’m in.

Are they prioritizing current orders over past orders with the prior owners? Just curious, I'm not trying to tell you what to do.

Couple hundred bucks if that plastic behind the painted bumper needs to be replaced.

Got quoted $1200 by Gerber to get the bumper and plastic piece behind replaced. The Toyota dealership near me sold their collisions department. Anyone recommend anything else?

Good question and I don’t know the answer. They are keeping a thread on here updated every week and that’s where I’m trying to keep up. The new owner has been responsive to the thread with questions.

Doesn't look like backup sonar or BSM sensors to replace, which will definitely bring the cost down on aprts and not needing to have those calibrated at least. I already managed to back into an exposed tree root that stabbed a hole through the bumper cap (just plugged it with epoxy putty and sanded/painted) but have been scoping metal bumper replacements if something happens to take out a whole section of bumper like this.

That looks familiar, my poor truck lost its cover a few times.

I think they are actually bumper covers, and the energy absorbing part is what they cover.

Those of you that already have a steel bumper, I have a question for you:

Since the BSM no longer works, do you simply turn it off in the cab? No errors, warnings, lights on dashboard?

I banged mine up over the weekend and moving on up to steel. :spending::cheers:
