Hey all, replaced my CV axle last week to try and address some vibes, with no luck...vibes are still there. Reading up some more and after feeling the amount of play in both the old and new axle I've got an ECGS bushing on order to replace that next week, I should've done it while I had everything apart but oh well...

Anyway, I noticed these marks on my axle (drivers side axle) and was wondering if this is indicative of anything? They aren't all the way around, only about 25%. Could this be another sign that bearing needs replaced?

looks like the rollers on the needle bearing gouged the surface. another sign that the needle bearing was on its way out. How deep are the scratches? It is not ideal to have gouges like that on a machined surface but as long as it is an indentation and not a protrusion you should be okay. Only downside is that portion of the axle shaft will not have "full contact" to the ECGS metal bushing but it is probably negligible.

It's tough to put much specificity on it as far as depth but I can feel them as I run my finger over them.

As far as your last comment, this is the old axle, don't worry. The new axle has about 20 miles on it with the old bearing but the diff seal is also leaking now so I'm not planning to drive it until the ECGS bushing comes in for fear of messing up my new axle shaft.

perfect then i wouldnt worry after you put in the new bushing since you have a new axle. Generally with higher miles or older vehicles whenever i am pulling a cv axle out i always change the cv axle seal since I have everything apart. Not too expensive and just stick with OEM. I learned my lesson too many times.

I am sure the ECGS bushing will solve your vibration issues once you put it on considering that the stock needle bearing wore away into your old axle. GL with the installation, should be pretty straight forward.

Yes, Those wear marks on the axle shows sign of a bad bearing.
