    Progress so far:

-Took off all tampos with finger nail polish remover and a q-tip

    -Test fitted the wheels

-Masked areas that I didn’t want to paint black

-final steps are clear coat and re assembly. More pics to come this evening. Have to run a few errands currently while letting the paint dry

Small subtle changes. These Rams come with a "Carolina squat" for some reason. I lowered the rear axle a little to make it level. At the same time painted the light bar black. It's part of the window mould but doesn't look realistic translucent.

One on the left is modded and right is "OEM" :)

You can cut and file that wing down if you have a large file it would be pretty easy.

Not a bad idea at all! For right now though I am more than satisfied with the end result. Fun little day off project. Gave me an excuse to unwrap the taco and take her out for a spin. Velcro’d to the dash mat. Smiles for miles.

Mucho Thanks! They were a gift from my lady. She’s truly the best. lol more than half the truck build was dedicated by her.

Recently found a half dozen each of Matchbox Tacomas and 4Runners at the local Big Lots, so grabbed everything I could so I would have a few spares to experiment painting. Took my first go at a few this week using a 6V7 Army Green spray paint and a small pot of touch up paint to try to match my actual truck, quickly figuring out that taping and spraying was much faster and cleaner than hand painting (you can easily tell which of the Tacomas was done each way and there's an obvious line near the front end of the green 4R where the spray paint tape line meets the brushed paint). Definitely plenty of room for improvement and hopefully should do better on a second set, but fairly happy for a first go at painting and taking these apart.

Also ended up swapping wheels and cannibalizing the bag of spare vehicle that had been grabbed just for the wheels. The muddy wheels came off a Ram Rebel and just like real life the rubbing in the wheel well is still bad even after a lot of trimming and cutting.

Painting the 1:27 scale Maisto model went much better, as at the larger scale I was able to remove all the plastic parts and paint each separately while spraying the entire metal body down. Not having much faith in my taping abilities I sacrificed keeping the black fender flares from the original model in the interest of getting a cleaner paint coat, so I guess it now partly identifies as a TRD Sport instead of as a Pro. Ended up with some sections that didn't paint properly inside the door areas and a couple drips that show up when looking up close, but definitely happier with this compared with the smaller 1:64 scale vehicles as the scale definitely hides painting mistakes much better.
