Yeah that would annoy me. This is not a 1990 Toyota Corolla.

There are some things that I don’t care about but I’m very particular regarding noises and vibrations.

In his defense I wouldn’t be able to film it either. It’s a feeling not something visual

My 18 company truck and my personal 23 do this. Only when in drive and foot on the brake. Seems to be more prevalent after the trucks have been driven for a while. Some days it's worse than others. I would never consider it "that" bad though. Some days it won't do it at all. I had a 22 sport for a loaner when my 23 was in the shop for the airbag recall and that truck did it too..

There are plenty of YouTube vids(including car care nut) and posts on here who have highlighted the rough idle in these trucks.

To be honest I think some of us are just way more sensitive than others when it comes to this stuff. My fiancé and my father both don't even notice it when it does it.

I traded my 22 Corolla on my 23 Tacoma and I will say my Corolla idled much rougher. But thats kind of the nature of a 4cylinder. 6 Cylinders by design and balance will be smoother.

I've experienced the opposite. My Mazda 4cyl is way smoother than the 2grfks at idle. However, your corolla had d4s where my Mazda doesn't. I feel the engine vibrate a little more when diesel mode comes on.

I’ve driven three separate Tacomas with the 2GR-FKS. They were all very smooth at idle, but also tend to vibrate slightly more compared to my 1GR. They’d also occasionally have what I refer to as the “got up on the wrong side of the bed” mode, or a subtle, temporary lumpy idle while in an applied brake/drive application (stop lights). Enough to be noticeable through the seat & steering wheel, then self-corrects.

There’s been lot of speculation on fuel grade quality & octane sensitivity as associated with the 2GR. While my personal experience is obviously less than scientific, I tend to lean towards that theory. But I also believe that everyone’s NVH expectations will vary based on prior experience.

I'm currently on my 5th tank of 93 in my 2023. Vibes the same as when I run 87.

I run 87. But I’m fine with my idle 99% of the time, so I attributed to variation in fuel quality, and ignored.

Tough, b/c idling feel can be relatively subjective. Service writers and even Toyota reps may not drive these trucks everyday as personal drivers, but if another owner here drove OP’s truck around the block, I’d bet they’d be able to immediately confirm that it’s not normal.

OPs truck does sound like it is excessive. The rough idle on my trucks isn't bad enough to bother me too much. I firmly believe any vehicle that cost 40k plus should be expected to have a smooth idle but as we know Toyota falls short in many ways compared to its price tag.

i consider my truck idle to be smooth, with the common ticking noise from the engine. i run 87 octane, and almost always buy it from chevron. not sure that makes a difference. i notice a difference between winter and summer blend fuel.

i feel all engines benefit from a good long-distance run at moderate to high speeds (but not breaking the law of course). if you primarily putt around town or drive in a lot of stop and go, fill 'er up and put that skinny pedal down for a few hundred miles. don't be afraid to let the tach kiss the red line. it'll be alright. :burnrubber:

In an MT vehicle it’s quite easy to see if it’s got rough idle just by looking at the shifter when it’s in N.

Toyota's D4-S, Atkinson/Auto cycle, Cleaning cycle and running accessories at idle while in drive can all be a factor with this engine at idle along with the related noises.

Even when you rev the engine up in park with the windows rolled down it sounds like there is no air filter.

However, I'm thankful that the intake ports won't get carboned up requiring walnut shell blasting thanks to that annoying D4-S system.

Also, no engine start stop, AFM or cylinder deactivation. I'll take my noisy little diesel wannabe any day over that other shit.

@Gfenza89 Have you ever taken your engine to red line at all?

I took it easy during the break in(first 1500 miles), but made sure to give it hell after 3k miles for the on ramps. I now accelerate normally for me and it’s smoother. The trans is still learning too.
