    Howdy,

Apparently we can use clamping screw knobs for our OEM skid plates. I've already lost one of the 4 bolts (not sure how) and was thinking this would be a better alternative anyways.

Does anyone know the correct size to get? I'm not too familiar with these or the sizes and how they are labeled. I just want to make sure before I purchase them. Also, do I need to get washers as well?

    2019 Tacoma, thank you!

How would these somehow not fall out vs traditional bolts? How would you torque em down?

I could see the plastic knobs getting trashed real quick

I just thought they'd be convenient but apparently you know more than I do.

Why worry about a plastic knob in a sheet metal splash gaurd? Worrying about those but not the flimsy sheet metal doesn’t make sense.

    good idea e’

thanks for the link. I have seen at least one other member using these to secure the pan

OP- if you want a “auto removal” of skid plates, then go ahead with the knobs. They do not TQ our hold TQ, thus, they wont secure the skid plate to the frame.

I dont know shit. But I'm big on common sense.
How often are you removing that pos splashguard that you need a quick release option?

I'd never replace a bolt with a plastic head thing. My ratchet and socket is probably just as fast and easy as those things.

Get the right replacement bolt. If you think you lost it due to vibration, maybe install a split lock washer on all of them.

If you lost it while doing an oil change, get a few replacements so you'll have one the next time you lose one.

I've made a few things in the bed rails of the truck using clamps like those, but underneath on a skid pan seems like a target for being broken off.

not a bad idea but the plastic exposed to the elements and road salt, impact, etc. bothers me. you can get stainless steel knurled knobs, among others. good filter tool if you search for "screws" at Amazon.

edit: as far as size - take a bolt to home depot. they have sizing and matching displays in the fastener isle.

I understand the convenience issue, but what are rocks, terrain, and other things dragging across the skid plate going to do to those plastic knobs?

Don’t think those will hold overtime ..more than likely will come loose since it’s just hand tightened. If it had some kind of locking thread mechanism I can see this working or Quick release pin would be better like on a hood .
