    Hello All.

My wife and I are currently looking for a Tacoma and one of her mandatory options (and pretty much mine also) is Blind Spot Monitoring. With that, has BSM improved over the years or has it pretty much remained the same? For example, is the BSM in a 2017 Tacoma much different than one in a 2023? This would have a bearing on what year Tacoma's to consider.

    Thank you.

    BSM hasn't changed.

BSM is the same, the 2018+ trucks now have lane departure warning, radar adaptive cruise, collision avoidance.

I dont care for the blind spot warning, but I love love love rear traffic alert, its the same system but I love its use. It detects traffic behind you when reversing out of a stall or driveway.

Thank you for the responses. So, looks like I am good with BSM. @Bishop84 - is that rear traffic alert available in 2017? It appears it is, but wanted to confirm. We are currently looking at a 2017, 2023 and potentially a new 2024. However, I really like the 2017 we saw this morning. And, of course it's tons cheaper. But, we wanted to find out as much as possible regarding the safety options/aspects that we might lose going for an older Tacoma vs new.

    Thanks again all.

Yes all BSM models have RCTA. Only 2018+ have the forward safety sense. 2020+ have power seats and new infotainment with Apple Carplay/ Android Auto.

2017 is the first year of third gen and 2024 first year fourth gen. Many issues that may or may not be sufficiently worked out yet. Buy the ‘23 and know it’s solid.

Here is the 2016 Specs PDF. Not much changed between 2016 and 2017 except the Pro was available in 2017.
