I got those forks attached to the backplate this morning. It's not so hard when you know what to do .
Sliding the forks to the outermost positions was pretty tough though. Hopefully I won't be moving them very often. Or maybe there is an unpublished 'trick' for that too??

Would a ratchet strap in the middle of the fork work?

Edit: Or one on the top and one on the bottom?

As for the strap, I've done this for a long time. I'm not sure it matters which way you turn the excess strap. I think what matters is to keep the bundle of excess strap tightly together as you rotate it so that it acts as a winch drum as it rotates, tightening in on itself.

Didn't try that, but it might work. I ended up wiggling and rocking them and using a crowbar to gain about 1/4" at a time . . . :angrygirl:

I don't know that I would call them tricks. But I would put a bit of grease on the top rail, and on the back of the bottom rail. When you're adjusting the forks its best to have them off the ground, slightly tilted forward, I put mine up 12-18" so I don't have to bend over much. Use your hand the push the top of the fork, and your foot to push at bottom of the fork tine. They should slide over. For stubborn forks you may have to move them a bit at a time, alternating pushing the top over, then the bottom. Grease does help smooth the way!

Our style of forks are usually not so easy as this...

I can assure you it was not my attention to rebuild the road when I started. My neighbor does this sort of work for a living, so I picked his brain for the best way to fix my mistake and do it right. On his advice I went the route I'm on. The neighbor I share most of the driveway with bought his house three months before I did. According to him when he bought the place the drives was a rutted 4wd track. The neighbor somewhat fixed it up by the time I saw it. I kinda wish he hadn't, because I would have offered less for the house had I know all of this. The guy who built this place cheeped out on a lot of things that are not easily noticeable. Building the driveway was a big one, the water lines are another. There was a bunch of drama surrounding the driveway 20 years ago. The original plan had been to connect to a near by road, but that road turned out to be private and the builder didn't want to pay to join the road. A lawsuit was filed by the road owners, the builder lost in court. But instead of paying to join the road, he bought a new right-away and put in the cheapest driveway he could. Unremarkably, he lost the house to foreclosure 4 years later. A flipper bought the place, then the laziest couple in the world bought it. Then, I bought it and all the unseen problems with it.

I'll be into this repair for about $1200-$1300 to fix one pothole, and the worst part of my mistake.:smack: I'll still need to put another $1000-$1500 :spending: into the driveway this summer. That'll fix about 200 yards or one tenth of a mile, of a .75 mile long driveway. :annoyed:

Edit: If I was really going to do this thing right I'd need 4-5 more loads of surge, then 6-7 loads of pug. :censored:

Lift the loader arms up and uncurl the fork frame so the forks are pointing at a 45 degree angle downward. This takes the weight off the lower hook and the forks will slide easier.

Isn’t it fun owning land? At the end of the day the driveway will be a lot better than it was!

Do this it's how the move lull forks on job sites. Like @Kbar said takes the weight off and you can slap a little not too much grease on them like @KRAMERICA said.

As the pretty orange and black Halloween paint flakes off that will probably help too. And the grease for sure!
