I'm from NY usually everybody speeds here, while others drive like a$$holes. Plus being a volly firefighter doesn't help either. I think the most miles I ever got on a tank was about 330. :(

For the AFE air filter, do you need to buy an new air intake, or does it fit into the stock air filter compartment?

    Thanks

Damn, that sucks. I've gotten 530 miles on a tank, and I could have easily gone over 600 miles if I needed to.

I also have a Scangauge II in my truck. I've learned how to drive it to maximize my mileage. If I see a light turn red, I lift off the gas and coast into the light. The gauge shows "9999" MPH which means the fuel shutoff mode is active. I probably could attribute 2-3 MPG in city/urban driving to using the gauge. Plus it reads OBD II codes and other stuff.

^^ yeah my driving styles have changed as well.

whenever i see a redlight i always coast to it. plus in WV we have alot of hills i basically coast down my hill into the city every morning for work but i use gas going back up the hill in the evenings, but i have been pulling out 25 MPG

the best thing i ever did was stop driving my truck like a Civic si (that i had before) and revving it up so high to be easy on the gas and just leting it coast where it can has attributed to alot of my gas savings :)

does this actually give you better mileage or does it just make your intake louder?

i have 5k miles and my average has gone to 23.2 to 24 in over the last 4 tanks, with an average fillup of 25.7. Being cooler in Fl has certainly helped as I havent had to run the Air con.

thats surprising because i thought the main purpose of the resonator was to muffle the sound of the intake

when i took the secondary air filter i noticed a bit more pick up. Any noticeable increase in gas mileage or pick up after taking out the resonator?

i know it wasnt directed toward me

but i noticed a bit more what seamed to be lag in the lowr RPM's but it for sure breathes better and you dont have to gear down as much going up inclines, as for MPG with everything i have done i went from getting 19-20 to getting 24-25 True story and i think most of that is being ALOT easier on the pedal on the right

I read a recent tech article that claimed the air filter does little or nothing to improve gas mileage. It will, however, improve performance, which apparently doesn't go hand-in-hand with MPG. The example used was a dirty air filter - it made no difference when replaced. Using this knowledge, installing a high-flow air cleaner may improve performance, but not gas mileage.

Like others have stated, proper tire inflation helps some, as does synthetic oil. I think the biggest gain in MPG is the proper use of your right foot. I find this Scangauge interesting and useful piece of equipment to help improve your driving habits, which would result in increased MPG.
