Hi I’m Alex, totally a newbie to this. I’m here because my friend gave me a 2001 Tacoma that was sitting in his back yard for many years and he had to get rid of it, so I took it off his hands because I like the truck. So after installing a new battery it started right up! Wow . So I started to fix whatever I could see was in need of repair. Needed shocks/springs so I got them and put it on the lift to install them and that’s when I saw that the frame was totally rusted out on the inner part of the box. Holy crap I wasn’t expecting that! So I found out that there was a safety recall on the frame and took it to the dealership only to find out that it was too old and the recall had expired. So I got lucky enough to find a frame that was in good shape and spent the better part of last year swapping everything over to the new frame and replacing everything that I saw needed to be replaced… I did the obvious, flushed and replaced all the fluids, filters, spark plugs… I believe it has a timing chain not a belt? It’s a 2.4 standard cab 5 speed manual with 300k miles. I was wondering what else I should do to get the old girl ready to get back on the road? I figured that this would be a good place to get a lot of questions answered about my truck…
    Thanks

Thanks all for the welcoming !
This was before I did the frame swap. I had already done some body work and painting. I decided to go with a white/black color scheme so I 618C9A75-C966-4A87-B8F1-638EA5B7E4B3.jpg Painted the rims and all the chrome parts black.

    She needs a bath lol
With the new shocks and lift, now I need some bigger tires to fill the gap!

I’ll make a new thread in the 1st gen section

Thanks I really love this truck ❤️
My big brother had an SR5 back in the 80’s before they were called Tacoma. I loved that truck so much and always wanted one ever since
