    13%!!! Holy moly!

I think some people are ok with an 8 year $1500 a month payment for a vehicle. I don’t know how they do it.

I think I mentioned us wanting a deck, had 2 people who told me last year they'd come look at it. Both stood me up at least twice, each. I gave up on them. I had a guy supposed to be there week before last, he messaged me that Thursday and said he ran out of days could he come last week, I said sure........haven't heard from him.

Told my wife I guess Cole and I will build it. We met a couple who moved to the area last year as well and he supposedly built decks. We are gonna try to get em over for supper this Saturday so I can talk to him about maybe helping me get the frame started and we can finish it. Shirley we can build a deck.

I did talk to another guy just now who I got his number from one of Cole's baseball coaches, he was straight up with me. He said I can give you a quote but won't be able to start for 6 months. I like honesty.

Since I'm not using the gooseneck, I guess I could do this with it.

I'm glad it's not just me. 9 times out of 10 I call and set up to have someone come do something I never hear from them again. And usually end up having to do it myself. Not nearly enough people in the trades these days.. it's a dying art. :notsure:

That is the truth, that is one reason I do so much myself. Can't depend on others to keep their word like when I was young.

Last sentence says it. If contractor or whoever says its too small job or cant get to it right away, i have more respect for them than if i never get a call back or never shows up. Whats so difficult to tell people that? I cant tell you how many times ive had no shows, no call backs etc.

I dont have company loyalty, i just want a job i cant get to or have the equipment to do it done.

Unfortunately that’s the residential side of construction nowadays. They don’t get back to you or they will no show at appointments. Where I work in the commercial world, the integrity is present and people show up. If I want something done at my house I will talk to another subcontractor at one of my commercial sites and get a recommendation. This is still hit
and miss but the odds of the contractor showing up is better due to the higher standards in the commercial world. And for a commercial construction manager or owner, they won’t recommend someone who sketches out on people. But it happens and we gotta either spend lots of wasted time waiting on them or get the info we need and just do it ourselves. Not all of us can be jack of all trades though and it’s the lack of skills that gets us taken advantage of.

I'd bet money that if you've never built a deck, with a couple of YouTube videos under your belt, you'll put up something better than you'd pay thru the nose for. It ain't rocket surgery...
