More info is needed. This sub forum is for introductions.

So are you looking for a '16+ model? If so post in the 3rd gen forum

How you want to use the truck/camper matters. As in where you go. KOA camping is one thing, boondocks is another.

Northern snow climes or dry climes? Mountains or flatlands?

    Budget range?

    Any towing experience or newbie?

There is also a towing forum.

    Lots of research to do!

Don't be in a hurry and you can make good choices.

@Rock Lobster is a good example. He's 2wd and wanders around a good bit. Tows too. :D

FWIW, Buy a second gen, they are best for towing and will last forever. 2.5 gen is peak Tacoma. Last year for that is 2015. Mine has 150,000 miles and feels and drives like new. It blows me away, it's by far the most miles I've ever had on a vehicle I've owned but I'd drive it anywhere at any time without hesitation.

    I drive a Miata.

Deciding that it needs on board toilet already narrows down your field of camper choice. The second step is deciding on whether you want a hard-side, folding, or pop-up. I went pop-up, but I do really like some of the A-liner folders, and I also really like that trail-manor has made a recent comeback.

The folders do require a bit of extra work at set-up and tear down and they also require some extra maintenance, but they tow wonderfully. Most people prefer the hard sides, but on those days when I'm driving into a hard headwind or down a trail with low hanging branches, I have to say that I really appreciate the low roofline of a folding trailer. The soft side pop-ups also have a 20 foot interior squeezed into a 10 foot box which is part of why I went that route. Their walk-around space is unrivaled but as we say in the camping world, every choice is a compromise. :cookiemonster:

The differences in reliability between Tacoma years are going to be minute and anecdotal. Pick which one speaks to you. 2018 and beyond are going to have the forward safety sensors. 2020 and beyond will have carplay. 2017 and prior will not have the safety tech. They are all great at light duty towing.

I’ve been looking a lot at Rove Lite trailers. Haven’t seen one in person but the specs seem reasonable.
