Currently running 285/70/17 Wildpeaks on a 6 inch lift. Want to get some thinner tires to keep from throwing as much dirt and rocks down the side of my Tacoma (I live down a gravel road and use it for hunting often). The gravel is starting to chip at my paint and I want to limit that. Any suggestions on sizes? I’m thinking 265 or 275s and may go with a taller diameter to keep from looking goofy.

Picture for reference. I’ve already taken the spacers off but the tires still stick out a little more than I’d like. Hasn’t been this clean since I bought it!

You could do the 35x10.5r17 Kenda Klever RTs, and there are a few others making the 255/85r17 like the Mickey Thomson Baja Boss which is like a 34.5" tire but obviously skinnier than what you're running now.

Perhaps go with same tires but different offset wheels and less rim width.

I run 285/75/17 nittos. They are 34x10.5. a lot less cutting and trimming to get full steering to clear then 35x12.5 a lot of guys run

With the wheels you have its going to do that no matter what. I get rock chips with 265 and 16x8 -12 wheels.

Wheel offset and or mud flaps is what you need. Dropping to a 0 offset will bring your tread line inside the fender line better. Slapping a narrower tire on the existing wheel wont help or won't work. That looks like a 9" wide wheel.

Not to nitpick but 285mm is about 11.25", not 10.5". 265mm is about 10.5".

Your right it must have been 11.5 it says it on the outside of the tire you are correct I misspoke. Still 1" smaller definitely made trimming easier on long travel

    Some Serious Tires
Man would love me some 265/85/17 mickey Thompsons. It will never happen though, unless I turn my truck into a bush rig.
You gotta bring your wheels in. That’s a lot of negative offset there.

My wheels sit pretty much flush and they still throw rocks and dirt on the side of the truck. I even got mudflaps. Tires are 255/80/17 (33x10) Love the look and functionality. Well and less stress on the drivetrain and steering components.

OP- 255/85/16 is the same diameter as the 285s you run, but 1” narrower. I just mounted some on my truck, they tuck nice and clear easily.
