Just wanted to share something I did to my Tacoma that almost completely fixed all my drivability issues.

Shortly after I bought the truck brand new (2022 trd off-road manual) I noticed some weird drivability issues. First time I noticed is when the truck was close to 2,000 miles, I now have 20,000 miles.

The issues are hard to describe but it feels as if the truck is randomly misfiring only at some specific rpm and load combinations, like if some sensor is off and the computer has to compensate in a hurry, causing the engine to lose power for a split of a second. Also when ACIS is switching at around 3600rpm I can feel a loss of power for about half second.

However, some other times, randomly, the truck behaved perfectly. 20% of the time it drove like a dream, the other 80% it felt like a 80s car with a ditty carburetor.

I tried 4 or 5 different tunes. I tried making my own tune for about 11 months. I managed to make things better but ultimately the truck always learned how to behave badly.

Finally yesterday I did the following:

    1. Cleaned MAF: took MAF out and sprayed like there was no tomorrow with a can of MAF cleaner. The sensor looked pretty clean already though.

    2. Cleaned the intake tube where the sensor goes, removed all the imperfections on the plastic that result from the injection process.

    3. Cleaned the throttle body, which was not that dirty.

    4. And finally, I pulled the CKP out. Maybe some of you know there was a recall around 2017 for faulty CKP. I confirmed my CKP is the new version with the = stamp, however it had some weird stains on the tip and on the sides. I don't know what the stains were from but they cleaned out and I left it looking brand new (did not take pictures after cleaning). Then I put it back in.

I've been driving the truck for about 4 days and all my problems almost went away and mpg shoot up to 17 on a drive that I have never done anything higher than 16. It has been almost a full tank of fuel and the truck is driving better and better.

I still have some minor, weird hesitation between 2k and 3k rpm, so I will clean he hell out of the MAF once more to see what happens.

I am entertaining the idea of getting a new MAF and CKP sensor just to see what happens.

Anyone has had a similar experience?

    Cleaning CPS is useless task.
The early years had the issue with too much coating that interfere with the sensitivity.
