19 tacoma rattling when pressing gas

19 tacoma 4x4 v6 dclb

so i’m assuming the worst obviously. the other day i had my truck tuned and then drove an hour back home.

getting off the highway i noticed a rattling sound. seemed like it was only when i was pressing the accelerator. the closest video i could find seemed similar to exhaust manifold leaks.

after the noise i didn’t drive the truck for a day. the next day i started the truck and there’s no noise.

brought it to a shop who thought it sounded like low oil pressure. oil levels all good though and there’s no engine codes popping for anything.

Detonation,engine knock or pinging as it's called. Does this still happen and only under acceleration? If so try running a higher octane fuel.

 

it’s only under accel and it only did it after being on the highway. driving today and accelerating like normal there’s no issue or sound.

so it seems more like when everything is hot

 

I had a similar issue and the secondary cats were failing (the honeycomb inside was falling apart). Wasn't a fun or cheap repair but the truck had 100k miles on it and is back to normal.

 

i’m only at 44k i’m hoping it’s just the gas issue.

i just had the truck tuned and have seen some people say specifically after the OTT the truck really wants higher octane. i’m not usually that lucky tho so we’ll see
