IMG_8316.jpg Made some sliders as a school side project and was curious how many slider to frame supports are normal? 3-4?. I think I’ll also put some 3 1/2” 3/16” thick gussets to back them. Photos of how others mount would be appreciated.

Looks great, nice work dude! Mine have 3 and seem plenty sturdy.

Looks good. I want to make some for my Tacoma. What size of tube did you use? How do you plan to attach them? Are you going to weld them on or bolt them up.

I used 1 3/4” round tubing and 2” square to avoid coping as much as possible. Only way without messing with lines is to weld, so I’m planning on that

My extra cab sliders have 4 legs, 3 should be plenty strong on a regular cab.

Mine are CBI bolt/clamp on's, best style bolt on ever made IMO. Not sure why they later turned their backs on 1st gens.
It's been so many years since I installed them, but I don't recall lines running on the frame being a big deal.

Those look great! When I made mine on my 4R I did (3) to the frame, but for that span I'd consider (4).

I mounted mine to 3/16 plate and made them removeable, but full send welding them to the frame is a tried and true move. Consider plating where you weld to the frame and gussets.

Just welded on the 4Xinnovations to my single cab and it uses 3 legs with 4” doubler plates on the frame along with a small gusset on the tube-to-plate connection. I believe the longer sliders for the extra and double cabs will use 4 legs.
Mine feel very strong with 3 legs.

I have an extra cab, so I’ll probably do 4. Anyone have photos of where the legs connect to the frame. Would It be bad to put the doubler plates over the holes in the frame?

Here's a set I made a few months ago for a TRD Pro 4runner. 1/4" thick frame plates, and .250 wall 2" on the main tube/support legs. These are a little overbuilt, but I'd still go with 4 supports on a quad cab Tacoma.Resized_20230606_173851.jpg Resized_20230626_190427(1).jpg Resized_20230704_152114.jpg

I covered a few of the holes on my frame. Don’t think it’ll be an issue since there’s a matching hole on the opposite wall. Mine are right behind my front cab mount, right behind the rear, and right in the middle of the 2 others.

IMG_8466.jpgPut some plating on the step and am almost ready to figure out the mounting situation. Few questions for that. Where did you all mount yours in relation to the pinch weld? Right under it? Behind it? Photos yet again are welcome. Also how big of back plates is most common, from my measurements I think 3 1/2” would be a good size. Let me know. Thanks

I just did mine this weekend, 4x innovations on an extra cab. Their recommendation is a maximum of 12 inches of span from the ends to the first mount. I did the fron5 and rear mount at exactly 12 and then did 18 inches between the remaining two mounts (4 per side). 4x says to center the middle of the round tubing with the pinch weld. I put about 1/2 inch gap between that and the pinch weld. make sure you give plenty of space between your leg and your body mounts. I ended up actually doing the body mounts before the sliders because mine were worn enough that the body sat too low to mount the sliders and maintain a gap.

Welding the sliders on tomorrow. What’s the consensus on welding just the sides versus welding the entire square. Seems tricky to weld the top of the plate. Ideally I’d like to weld the entire thing to seal it.

Once I did the fitting of the legs and the base plates, there wouldn’t have been enough room to get a stick or a tig cup up to the top. I wrapped the bottom corner and left the center open to allow moisture to pass through

Alright, my school has mig so I’ll see what clearance is like. I assume you painted the back of the plates then?

Yes, but I wrapped the edges of the places front and back with painters tape, so I’d have a clean welding surface.

My friend did the actual welding, but he did the sides and the bottom. I then went in with some clear sealant and sealed the top edge.
