The detection needs to see two failures in a row, and it only run the test between 10-90% of the fuel tank level 6 hours after being ran up to temperature. So you need to check your monitors are clear without assuming that because the CEL is off that the condition is fixed. You may not have established the correct conditions for the system to run its test.

Good to know… either way I think I’ll end up putting the parts on.

I got these 5/5 codes about a week ago and cleared them and they came back a couple days later as well. Also every time when I'm pumping gas the station pumps aren't clicking off in time and it makes a mess every time unless I'm standing there ensuring it doesn't overfill and click off too late. Luckily for me I live in bfe Nevada and there's no smog so I've just been ignoring it but it is annoying.

I was hoping I could use my OBD2 scanner (Foxwell NT301) to see if I could pinpoint the exact issue instead of just throwing money at it hoping it fixes it like @6 gearT444E did some pages back with his but my scanner didn't seem to support those evap system monitor test? It just kept saying vehicle not supported, maybe I just need to update the firmware? I guess I shouldn't have also bought the cheap version.

Hoping you guys can continue to keep this thread updated with your fixes.

yeah man so its unfortunate but when you get those shitty codes it means you're in for the long haul...just trying to warn people that if say you leave you gas cap on off one time it should only throw a pending code

Time for me to stop slacking and install the new canister that's been sitting in my garage for over a year (probably closer to 3). Have I met the minimum procrastination period? My light only comes on when it is cold outside.

    Finally did mine.
Fuel line to the top of the tank was a hassle for some reason.
Put a few miles on it this week to work, scan it for pending codes, and hope I’ll pass smog next weekend lol

Well, despite not having the light on, I went ahead and swapped out the canister.

Removal of the bed is not necessary. Remove the bracket on the right (in the picture) and the canister can slide out easily. I see zero reason why anyone would cut the bed support to make room to remove the canister.

I did end up lifting the bed though. I couldn't get the second to last connection loose. That stupid skinny hose was harder to get off than the last one that looks to connect to the top of the tank. For that last one, there are two tabs. Press them in, and then slide it off. Apparently that is a step that gets most people stuck.

The first hose that came off has some cracks around the ends. I'm actually thinking that might be the culprit of my issue since I only get the codes when it is cold. Rubber shrinks when it is cold just like everything else. So I'll replace that hose if the codes come back this winter. I'm going to hold onto my old part though. Maybe be able to help someone locally without them having to buy a whole new unit.

The unit that I removed is heavier than the one that went in. It didn't feel like it had liquid in it, but that's the only thing it could be based on my (limited) knowledge of how these systems work. I also don't fill to the brim. I'm pretty much a fill til it stops automatically. I might add up to $.04 to round out a number.

Old baseball bat worked perfectly for lifting the bed.

    Whole lotta stuff
Update to my issues. I replaced my canister awhile back, but the codes came back within a couple weeks. Fast forward to today, went to pump gas after a few weeks worth of repairs, managed to put three gallons in, before hearing the sound of pouring fluid. My fuel filler neck completely deformed and ruptured in two spots. Definitely having bad luck with the system lately.

My initial impressions are that the fuel vent is clogged, which would explain why the evap pump is throwing codes. Perhaps fuel pump pulling pressure also caused the filler neck to deform from the vacuum. I’ll get some pictures, and update as I tear into it. Never seen this happen to any other trucks on here.

I guess this year will be the real test. I replaced the canister when the weather was nice. :fingerscrossed:
