Going to save $400 and do my differentials myself. Dealer wants over $550 for both. Mobil 1 or Royal purple? I'm going to do them both like clock work every 30k. Is there a better gear oil or is the Mobil 1 fine.? Amazon has 6 qts of Mobile 1 75-90 for $73.99. I do whatever DIY I can and save the bigger jobs for the dealer or my mechanic. Probably covered in another thread but I'm not seeing it.

Not to derail, but curious as to the benefit of replacing the drain plugs with the Lexus ones?

The OEM taco ones are 10mm hex which end up getting stripped very easily (lots of posts on it). Lexus ones are a bolt you can put a socket on.

Ahhh nice. Yeah I’ve had issues on our Mazda3 commuter/beater car after letting a dealer do an oil change. They wreaked hell on the hex insert on the drain plug and I had to replace it last time I changed the oil.

Saving those part numbers so I can replace with hex variety when I do my diff changes.

Wow. Toyota of Redlands only charged me 99$ for the rear diff . I’m guessing similar price for the front diff .

If it will be a while until you get to it, maybe go under and just break the existing ones free a quarter turn. Help open up the factory torque and current bit of buildup. Maybe squeeze some anti-seize / oil on a couple exposed threads to help seal out rust and keep from a headache later on. Unless you have a half inch of fluid film on like me lol.

This part: "Drain Plug: 90341-24016" does not come up at BAM Wholesale or Connicelli Toyota. Is it a correct part number for the drain plug?

Just did my front diff, rear diff and transfer case for the 1st time @ 128K.
The fluid coming out of all three could have been mistaken for new.
These recommended intervals are definitely dollar driven.

Not too sure if I've ever changed any of the three in the past, and I've had several pickups approaching 400K on the clock before I put them out to pasture..

I used Delvac1 also. $39/gal at Summit Racing last I checked.

Nice! Luckily our diffs don't need LS additive. Summit is definitely the best price but you have to spend $100 to get free shipping. I've been watching the price on Amazon and got mine for $45/gal and got two since I only need about 6qts to do both diffs.
