Long story short, purchased a 2003 PreRunner 12/21 with mileage @ 97k. It’s been my favorite vehicle that I've ever owned (age 65). 45k later determined the water pump was failing and did a complete repair, water pump, timing belt, idler pulleys, tensioner, seals, power steering belt, AC belt, radiator hoses, and coolant flush. Everything went to plan, and she started and ran fine except the ECU kept resetting to incomplete status. Additionally, RPMs would drop to low 400s when this happened. Here's what I found, the BAFX ODBII Bluetooth device running the Torque Pro was causing the problem. I purchased it in 2019 to clear some faults on another vehicle but never used it to monitor live data while driving as I was paranoid about the coolant temp after the repair. Ended up purchasing a BlueDriver product, the problem is gone and couldn't be happier.

This is really good information. Thanks for sharing. Was just looking at the bluetooth OBD2 scanners but went with wired one instead.

I'll stick with a dedicated unit like the SCII for basic monitoring.

Mostly because I don't want to have my phone become another tool, or be dinking with it while I'm driving.

This is why I purchased the more expensive BlueDriver. Heard that some of these cheaper units cause more problems than they solve.

Never had an issue with my $5 ELM327 bluetooth dongle.
All electronics are prone to failure, and all these dongles are 90% the same thing (scangauge being an exception).

UltraGauge is a good competitor to the ScanGauge as well. I've had mine for like almost 10 years and its still doing great.
The Arizona sun is slowly starting to get to it though, as would be expected from putting a screen on the dashboard directly in the sun.
