Help with electrical issue

Hello, I have been lurking for a while trying to find answers regarding common issues Tacoma owners have experienced in the past.
I have an electrical issue that I haven’t been able to track down. My taco is stock, no mods or anything so I don’t think I caused the issue by aftermarket parts install.
Out of the blue my headlights (both high and low beam) quit working. My interior dash lights quit, as well as power windows and locks. The climate control sys isn’t illuminated but the air conditioner is working. The temp dial isn’t working but the fan speed dial is working. I have checked all the fuses under the driver side dash with a cheap meter and they are all working. I also checked the fuse box under the hood and all appeared working.
I suspect that maybe the body control module is cooked? The truck has about 80,000 miles and has been maintained regularly. Any suggestions??? Thanks in advanced.

Welcome to TW; electrical is definitely out of my comfort zone, so no idea what your issues may be honestly, but free bump so more people will see and find some helpful solutions. My only recommendation is maybe change the thread title to "electrical issues/stock truck" or something similar so the electrical gurus will take notice. We see alot of "New Members" type threads and most people skip right over them, well, because honestly, its usually just someone asking what size tires/how much lift/etc. Good luck OP! Definitely does seem like some sort of module or rat chewed harness with so many issues occurring at once. Maybe check into major ground points on the vehicle? Sounds like everythings getting power, but might now be getting the ground it needs? Any signs of wire melting/chewed through/exposed anywhere that you can find?

I know there are a handful of members on here that seem to have diagrams for everything but can't remember exactly who they are. I'll tag them back here if I happen to stumble across a thread and find them.

 

Welcome aboard! That is a very unusual problem. I am no electrical expert, but you will likely get some advice in the “3rd gen Tacomas” or “General Tacoma talk” sections.

I think @TnShooter is one of the guys who can usually zero in on root cause on things like this quickly. I’m not experienced enough to be able to help much. From your symptoms, the closest match from my own personal history is when my 100 amp alternator fuse blew up as I shorted it due to being too lazy to disconnect the battery when messing with the alternator. But I have no idea if that’s of any value for a 3rd gen, just trying to help in case you didn’t check that one.

 

The IA Ground point is common with all those systems not working.
The easiest way to check it would be to pull the IG2-Main relay and check the ground terminal in the fuse box. (Located in section "Unit C" in diagram below)
See if terminal 2 in the fuse box has a good ground.
As checking directly at the ground point doesn't mean the wire isn't broken upstream.
But, you could pull the kick panel on the driver sides and take a look at the ground wire/point. Maybe it got loose or corroded a bit. The ground point it IA

 

Here is an example of the IG2 relay and the terminal 2 being grounded at IA.
Pull the relay in the fuse box, then see if the 2 terminal is grounded.
