I just recently bought a 2018 trd sport and everything has been great until the other day I noticed my tailgate will no longer lock using my key fob I can only do it manually. I've checked the fuses and they seem fine. That being said I could not figure out what fuse was for the tailgate lock so I just checked them all so it's possible I could have missed one.

power locks were not available from the factory for the tailgate (which for the price of the truck is absolutely ridiculous). If it has and/or had one, its aftermarket or an installed accessory.

Don't hate me for asking, but it was working with the fob and now it won't? I really don't think the tailgate has its own circuit / fuse, but I could be wrong. It's easy enough to pull the tailgate panel, maybe the cable that attaches to the actuator pulled loose?

It likely is either an electrical connection that failed or the unit (that is easily accessed). Open the gate, unscrew the plastic cover and look, if it doesn’t work then check power to the unit, that will lead you to the problem. One type the wire goes up the passenger side and the other runs up the drivers side and attaches to a wire there.
    Good luck

    I'll wager it's a Pop n Lock that's popped it's last..

I went with the OEM unit because of the failure rate

Don't believe everything they post here.
But, remove the passenger side kick panel and look for this harness.

It has 2 fuse to the tailgate. In case there's a collision in the rear it would isolate the door lock circuit to continue functioning.
But also inspect the wiring to the tailgate to see if it's compromised and the fuses have done their job.

I think we need some clarification about whether it used to work and it no longer does, or you think it should lock and unlock with the fob. If it did work, then clearly it has some sort of actuator in it. If it never did and you think its supposed to, it more than likely has no actuator in it.

Unless he update his original post, he says it will "no longer" work with the FOB which indicates it previously worked.

Do you hear it working? If so, it's not the wiring or fuse and most likely the actuator or a sticking lock mechanism which you must remove the tailgate panel to lube with graphite or replace the actuator. I bought an actuator on EBay from China for a fraction of the price of a Pop Lock and it was the same thing less the Pop Lock sticker.

I took it as he just purchased it and assumed it was supposed to. But who knows. I know I sure thought they were supposed to lock with the fob when I bought my truck new. :annoyed:

I'm experiencing a similar problem but both my canopy and tailgate locks stopped working at the same time. Everything is aftermarket and both are wired into different spots.

If you find a solution let me know.

I’m having the same issue. Just stopped working. It was installed when I purchased the truck new.

That was the first thing I did. I ended up finding a break in the wiring between the cab and the tailgate yesterday. Problem is solved

I have a 2021 Sport and I bought OEM tailgate lock…because it did not lock/unlock with FOB.

As a matter of fact, I learned about this issue by becoming a member here 5 months after my truck purchase.

I’ve learned quite a bit here since then and I’m coming up on 3yrs of ownership in May.
