Will be... heading to a local Mexican (walkable from home) that has an insanely diverse tequila selection to meet a friend for Margaritas and Carne Asada Nachos... :drunk:
I'll be meeting him there at 3:00. This will be me at 5:30... :anonymous:

Not as hopeful as I would like. I still find new jobs to apply for, but yesterday I had a first ever for me in all the times I have been unemployed and looking. I applied for, and got rejected for a job - on the same day! Usually I don't hear back for a week or two, sometimes within 2-3 days, but never the same day.

And back in January, I had another first ever. I received a formal, written offer, and accepted it. Then a week later, HR called me to tell me the company was cancelling all open positions, including mine, so I lost a job I hadn't even started yet.

The most frustrating part is not knowing why I get rejected. My age is likely a big factor. I've been in the I.T. field since 1992, and the number of non-executive people in IT that are older than about 50, is pretty low. I'm 57, and even though my resume doesn't list my age, it doesn't take a mathematician to guess I'm up there when the see my work history listed out.

Another likely factor is salary. If a job posting lists its salary, and it isn't in my range, I don't even apply. About 1/2 the jobs I apply for don't list a salary range. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the jobs ask what your desired salary is, even if they don't list what they are offering. It could easily be that what I list is way off from what they are willing to consider. Or perhaps they figure with my years of experience, I am just naturally going to be expecting a fairly good salary, and they don't wanna pay.

The drawback to job hunting is that you can only say so much in a 1-2 page resume. If you don't have just the right buzz words or phrases that the automated resume reading software uses, you will never make it to the actual hiring Manager. I've had my resume update by two different paid/professional companies, but I have still only had maybe 6 - 8 hits on the 140+ applications I have submitted so far.

One positive thing I can about California over Kentucky - assuming CA employment laws haven't changed since 2016, you got up to 18 months of unemployment (pay) if needed. Kentucky, you get only 16 weeks. I hit that point in February. The plus for Kentucky, their unemployment weekly pay is quite a bit higher than CA, which I completely did not expect.

Worst case, we end up losing our house, at least we can move in with my in-laws (15 miles away) and I can keep looking. The big downside to that scenario, if we lose this house, I will lose my VA home loan eligibility for life, so we may not be able to buy another home, would have to rent.

I try to not think about that scenario. We haven't reached that point yet.
