I'm looking at some new tires this summer. I like the Duratracs, and was most likely going with those or the Wildpeak AT4W. But then I started thinking, for my use, which is 90% on road and 10% off, I need a tire that is good in the rain, snow, muddy roads, farm fields, and getting to the odd off the beaten path fishing hole.
I know we all like to think we need to outfit our truck for the apocalypse, but in reality wouldn't a tire like this serve us better? Goodyear Wrangler® All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar®
    upload_2024-4-4_13-16-42.png
While it doesn't have the cool looks of an MT, it seems more practical. Maybe I'm just old; I want a tire that gets me where I need to go and doesn't kill my gas mileage in the process.

Who uses these? How do you like them?

Those tires came on my 2020 model and were nice on road for sure, but hot garbage offroad. The first time I went out on my property I hit a bit of mud and the rear end immediately slid out and tapped a tree. I would've wound up with a HC bumper anyhow but that definitely made the decision easier lol.

My Dad had them on his ‘23 Tundra. They did just fine in very similar driving. (Our area of Michigan has a lot of sand/clay and gets soupy with heavy rains). They did just fine.

It's form over function for a lot of folk on here. Aesthetics.....no experience with that tire but I've ran Falken wildpeak at3w in the past when my truck was a daily and saw mostly highway with the occasional off pavement trips. Did really well on pavement, in wet conditions, muddy conditions, and soft sand conditions. I believe they recently released the at4w model. My father has ran BFG KO2's on his taco for as long as I can remember. He has no gripes or complaints

One can never have too many light bars.
In reality some Ling Longs would be fine for about 95% what you would experience on the roads. These look fine.

BFG KO2 for me……..I’ve ran BFG on trucks and jeeps for thirty years. I’ve never once thought that they were overkill

I second KO2's. I'm on my 2nd set and they have served me well in Idaho weather and my weekend offroad trips.

I guess I should also add, I have also tried a few different Goodyear tires throughout the years. I had a set of tracks on the FJ. He did those tires. They wouldn’t keep a balance for longer than 2000 miles.

Aren't these OE for 3rd gens? A lot of people complain about their performance offroad, but it should be fine for whatever service roads and farm fields you take it on. A lot of people including myself are running at3w's, with great results on and offroad.

Duratracs and AT4Ws are not MT , they are an AT tire they just have a more aggressive tread. Most AT tires you won't see a significant impact on mpgs if you stick with OE sizes, even with aggressive tread patterns.

FYI the Wrangler AT Adventure with Kevlar is an OE equipment for the TRD Pro.

The Tacoma is overkill for what I actually need it for!
    I like the looks!
Running KO2s 285/75/16 so yes they are.

You should get the tires you need. My truck came with Ironman A/T and they were decent but not great. I switched to 33” for more ground clearance, I wanted to go with either KO2 or ATW3, but the prices were higher than I could reasonably pay having just bought the wheels. I ended up with e-rated Patagonia X/Ts and I am very happy with them. Only about 1 mpg lost as well.

Yep, I got that about the DTs and AT4W being AT. Since these are OEM for the Pro, you'd expect them to perform a little better off road, I'd suppose. It seems in a lot of the TRD Pro reviews, the tires are one of the biggest gripes.

OEM tires always suck; they represent the best deal for the OEM, not the best performance for the customer.

OP maybe take a look at the new Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail. I stopped at a local distributor today and it seems like a good option.

in terms of choosing a tire, i am in the same boat but don't have any experience with the GY tire. in my experience with other GY tires, i do not like them. they have never worn well and seem to puncture more easily.

i run the OE toyo A30 all-season tire in the spring, summer, and fall, and an AT with the 3PMSF rating for the winter. i see about a 10% drop in fuel mileage and i can feel less rolling resistance with the toyo A30's.

many here on TW rag on the toyo A30's that come on the TRD Sport but in my experience they are not that bad. i would not do any serious off roading with them.

my MT tire days are over and i do not buy tires for looks anymore. i think my next set will be a mild AT tire like the yokohama geolander AT or the michelin defender. most of my use is on road too, and i like the best fuel mileage i can get. it is one of the few things i like about my truck, decent fuel mileage.

The Toyo A30’s actually do annoyingly well at everything for being such an inexpensive tire.

Have them on my 2023. Nice road tire. Took it to the mountains & hit some snow & mud. Wife thought we were going to slide off the road & die ;)
