V6 auto here. Occasionally I tow around 4,500 lbs not very often tho. Is it better on the transmission to tow in D or 4th gear?

Use S4. Locks out the OD gears and facilitates the use of engine breaking. Let ‘er scream.

There is no S4 on a 2nd Gen.

But to answer the question, 4th is best suited when towing.
The 4.0 doesn’t wake up until about 3,000 RPM.
I’ve towed in 4th at 70 mph many times. It will drink gas, but it is cheaper than overheating the transmission and potentially costing you a transmission.

For a 2010, use 4th gear for sure. Overdrive does not like the weight and stress of towing

You can rent a heavy duty truck from enterprise and not worry about totally killing your midsize.

:anonymous: Completely missed that 2g thing. Must have been thinking about something else, but my heart was in the right place.
