You know 17 year olds a complete dumbasses, right? I can rest assured that when he's staring at her, umm, big, beautiful eyes while hooking it up, it doesn' t matter that all the blood ran to the wrong head. He won't harm the car or battery.

But I agree red to red, won't get dead...

But 17 year old dumbass is the short answer why it's necessary. And girls.

Yea I remember back in the 70's a 17 year old friend of mine jumping my sisters car, was checking the water level
and lit up a bic-lighter so he could see better - good thing he was wearing glasses LOL... I guess the more things
change the more they stay the same.

But what you're saying is even if you DO mess up, the unit will offer that protection, idiot proofed.

Q1: Are the cables long enough and
Q2: Once it's ready to rock do you have a few seconds to turn the ignition on like others I read about?

Cables are kind of short. But plenty to hook up to battery. Turn the unit on, and you hear it make a noise I think is the unit giving the battery a little AED action. Once the light is bright, hit the key. Easy as that.

I've used it 3 or 4 times myself. No fails.

Kid has probably done 3 or 4 cars this summer. No fails.

Used it on an ATV last fall, and it worked there too. So, I bring it on all my trips.

My guess is that with the described driving pattern you are never getting your battery to full charge, thus minimizing the battery service life..

Starting with a good, healthy battery, I expect five years of life with my current driving routine. When I had an eight mile commute, I was lucky to get 18 months out of a battery.

Right around 3 years for me. If I have a long backcountry trip planned and I have started to see the check charging system light come on from time to time, I will replace early. I also carry the noco boost

Yea I concur - I don't drive it as much as I should on longer outings - once the weather cools I'll trip-out to different places with camera in hand
but meanwhile I'm gonna replace it this month. Got a trip planned in September don't wanna be stranded - been there done that with no cell
    service in Yellowstone once.

Going on about 2.5 years with my battery, NAPA legend i believe is what i have.
Still doing good but as soon as i feel that first tiny bit of drag i'll get it tested and probably replaced.

2 years 7 months on my first. The dealer replaced it under warranty. I'll keep going that route until the warranty period has expired, then I might do more research. My wives car seems to get one about every 2-3 years too. Her's was just from Autozone. Whatever the option was with the 5 year warranty. I think that's been replaced twice now?

Have one of those NOCO's in both vehicles too. Saved her a couple of times already as well. Just remember to recharge them.

I have a NOCO to replace the "Instaboost" I let run dead (back when I spent most of my time in a more densely populated space and little risk of being stranded). The Li-something batteries do not take nicely to "death" so maintenance-charge it every month.

I once helped some girls on a cold night outside a grocery store at 9 PM who looked like they always were on the verge of a broken car. Even the 5-year-old-technology Instaboost worked. Whether or not they took my advice and bought one of their own will never be known by me.

Got an Interstate last summer. Had a bad cell and failed within a few months. warranty replaced it, but still a hassle.

Usually three years on the OReillys batteries. Probably could last longer but I can't risk it.

I have 3 batteries in my RV from Costco. 2-6 volt and 1 12 volt. Put some magic dust battery restorer in them 4 years ago and still going strong.. they were all bought in 2017. Probably just jinxed it.

I bought it on Amazon. White powder in little packets. My batteries were discharging very fast but after treatment back to normal. Some have suggested that it is baking soda. I also have a constant charge coming from solar, not sure if that also helps.

I get mine from Costco and set a reminder in my phone for 23 months. Take it in, tell em it’s dead and I get a new one no questions asked. It’s not free and it’s not 100% honest, but it sure beats waiting for it to fuck me.

Some of the Costco's (Scottsdale) will check the batteries with a multi-meter. If it's not quite flat you'll get the look. o_O Don't ask me how I know. :anonymous:
