    Hello!

I am installing an amplifier on a gen3 Tacoma. I have been searching TW for a few hours for the preferred solution to turn on the amplifier. Specifically I am looking for a remote turn on source for the amplifier. I am considering the Power Antenna wire (pin H blue wire). I read somewhere that this wire is powered at all times the radio (AM FM) is on as opposed to the receiver being powered on. If that is the case and it is unpowered when AM-FM is off then I need to consider another source. I am looking for power anytime the headunit is on. I imagine the ACC power would also be an option.

So can I use the blue antenna power wire as a remote on and does it have to return to the female Red Wolf I am splicing in. What is that wire used for?

    Thanks

The blue wire does go to the antenna in 2019-earlier models, so it does need to keep its path. You can tap into it though.

    what amp are you installing

I'm installing an Audio Control ACM-4.300 under the drivers seat. I know GTO is an option but since I have a 9 wire harness going to the amp, I wanted to use it.

If you’re using the male and female 1761 harnesses, just make a T with your blue wires and you’re all set.
It is powered any time the radio is on, not just when am/fm is active

I got everything wired but couldn't get the amp to power. I selected GTO and it powered. I checked voltage on the blue wire and it's only putting out 4.75volts. That's likely why the amp is not powering on. I might leave it with the GTO option selected.

If I have more time tomorrow, I'll check directly at the back of the headunit to see how much voltage potential there is at that pin.

If you use the GTO, be sure to disconnect the blue wire at the amp.
When the GTO is turned on, that Remote connection becomes an output and can be used to turn on additional amps.

    Thanks Destin,

I still have to sort out tons of minor issues. The amp is out again as I adjust everything to get a decent fit. I just installed sound deadening material, then closed cell foam, followed by mass loaded vinyl to most of the interior. Now every time I install something, I need to remove and install multiple times to fit things.

If I can find one of my thinner multimeter probes, I'll check the back of the R30 connector to see what comes out of the Amp turn on pin. I am curious to see if that would be an option. The GTO option seems acceptable but I didn't know it would have power on that terminal. I'll put a plastic plug in the connector to prevent inadvertent shorting.
