    Hi

So my family and I are planning a trip to Maine in late July. We'll be staying right on Mt. Desert Island. Anyone have any suggestions for things to do, things to avoid, etc. I just want to see Acadia and anything it has to offer. I know I could Google this, but figured I'd ask some similar-minded (perhaps) people. Just a quick look tells me that I'd personally be happy just seeing all the greenery and landscape that the island has for the 7 days we're there, staring at a night sky devoid of the light pollution all around me, etc. Kids are 8 and 6 for what it's worth if anyone knows of kid friendly stuff as well. Worst case (namely weather) we bring some Legos to occupy the time.

    Appreciate the input.

It’s going to be very busy there. Not sure if Acadia had gone to reservations to enter the park, but I’d check on that.

LLBEAN in Freeport is always a good stop.

it’s been a while since I have been at Acadia, so I am not much help.

Typically, Cadillac Mountain is the only part of the park that requires reservations for vehicles. For entry into the park there is a fee for vehicles or a per person fee.
There is a free bus around Bar Harbor called the Island Explorer that goes around town and to the park.

If you're in the area July 13-14th there is the Rockland Blues Festival.

I haven't been down east in years, but the Lompoc Cafe was a cool spot then. They used to have outdoor bocce ball courts. Probably corn hole now.
Atlantic Brewing is in the area and makes some good beers.

On the way up Freeport is a good spot for shopping with some outlet stores and regular retail. The North Face store in Freeport is a true outlet. Patagonia used to be then they went full price.
Kittery is also a good shopping spot.
If you plan on buying booze for the week stock up in NH because it's tax free and cheap. There are state liquor stores right off I-95

It's a tourist town so noting is cheap and Route 1 can be slow going during tourist season.

Got back end of July, and what an incredible trip as well as a beautiful state. Acadia was wonderful and we are already planning a trip back for next year to see some other areas of the state as well.
