So if I'm understanding correctly after reading through the thread, the dealer "fixed it", you took it back after seeing the aweful repair job, and the actually fixed it correctly this time, but the paint now doesn't match? So are you having to eat the price of new paint since they've "repaired it" twice now?

No, dealership damaged my truck when i took it in for a simple oil change. They said they'd make it like brand new, so I allowed them to "fix" it the first time and a week later they just color sanded and didn't fix the dents they left. I took it back and the body shop A.M said he didn't notice the damage. I showed him the multiple pictures I took the day or the original damage and he said, oh....he said he'd make it right. I get it back the second time and they did like a 95% job body wise and paint wise, it's clearly not a full match. In the shade you can't tell but when you pull into the sun, you can see it's off. Like the OEM mgm has like a darker clear with almost a purple haze in it and the repainted door is just straight mgm and looks a bit lighter.

You'd be amazed how many brand new vehicles have body filler in them. o_O

The door is absolutely repairable. They should've repaired his door. There's nothing wrong with a proper repair. Demanding unreasonable things only makes it worse. Also, a lawyer will cost him $$$. This isn't an injury claim where the lawyer takes the case on a contingency and gets a cut of the settlement.

A quality repair is perfectly reasonable. Demanding a new door is not.

If you would want to spend your $$ on lawyer, certainly your prerogative. But it's not likely to do much other than cost you money. People tend to overlook that businesses deal with lawyers, and the threat of lawyers, all the time. It's a nothingburger to them.

Your factory paint has faded over the past 8 years, so matching the faded paint with a custom blend of new paint will be an exercise in approximation.

This, OP. You're experiencing the gamble you run when painting a large section of a vehicle, and is a consideration when attempting any repair. Typically you try to do the least invasive correction, and don't respray an entire panel/door if possible. But when you do, it best be with a talented painter who can eyeball color, or a shop with a computer aided system that they hold up to your vehicle's paint to get a custom mix. Being a stealership, they probably didn't blend into adjacent panels either. Pictures speak more, can you post new ones of your current gripe?

Anyway, you've gone back to the dealership twice who've proven that they: A) Can't take care of a vehicle in the first place. B) Don't produce work to your standards.
So your option is to find someone that can. I would've had the dealership agree that you take it to an autobody of your choice to be a neutral 3rd Party, since you obviously are very specific about your Truck (I get it, I am with my car. Not so much my Tacoma, as it's for utility). Not that they would be required to agree to that, but might've had a chance from the start. Now, good luck. They've done two repairs that are probably the best they can produce and have tried to do right by you.

It's garage kept... no fade. I keep it in excellent condition.

if it's been in the sun at all in the last 8 years, the paint has changed from the oem formulation.

I’ll just say it. You F… Up when you let the dealer fix knowing your standards are high. Should have gone straight to your body shop of choice and had the dealer pay for the repair.

    - There is still fade, but it happens evenly across your whole truck so you don't notice it, with the possible exception of the bumper cover, because paint on plastic fades at a different rate. This divergence starts at the factory before the truck is even assembled.

    - Even the factory paint varies from batch to batch. MGM door painted in week 3 will be a different shade from MGM door painted in week 5, for example. Source: talking with body and paint engineers at Honda and Toyota in my SAE chapter.

It’s hard enough getting good bodywork when you’re paying for it, much less when a dealer is doing it for free.

The very last time I had the dealer service my truck, a porter wedged it between to other service vehicles. No damage, but I never went back. Porters are likely the weakest link….

    @TegTaco16

I hate this happened to your baby, and I’m frustrated as I can be just reading this thread. Hope it gets worked out one way or the other.

I took my truck to an accredited body shop, they saw the repair without me pointing it out. I had them give me an estimate and it's extensive. It's gonna be $2,500 to redo Toyota's crappy repair.

Did they give you any assurance they can match the MGM?

Yes, they are gonna blend everything. They said it's gonna be taken apart, bed from the truck...all rubber moldings...all 3M guards. He said even the flake was off and sprayed only in 1 direction which it should have been multiple directions to match OEM.
