Hi, this is my first post here. I have an 06 TRD with around 145k.

Recently the dash will always show the reverse light ON as well as whatever gear the truck is actually in. That means the reverse lights on the back of the truck are also always on. I got my codes read and I have a check engine due to a bad park/neutral (PNP) switch. I replaced that switch, along with checking two other possible solutions.

    1. Terminal connection under driver kick panel - supposed to be water damaged - it was not.
    2. Fuse under dash near steering wheel - fuse was ok.
In addition to that I also disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes after installing the new PNP switch. However I still have the same problem. The truck does drive normally and I haven't noticed it doing anything weird, which it seems most people with a bad PNP will experience things like the truck not starting, or randomly turning off. Just wondering what I should do going forward, before summer gets here..

Do they go off if you unplug the transmission range switch?

If it doesn't then you have a short to power somewhere on the reverse circuit.

Anything aftermarket that you know of tied into the reverse circuit?

Is the transmission range switch the same thing as the PNP switch? I didn't see anything with that exact name in the diagram schedules. Do you mean "they go off" as in all gear position indicator lights?

And no, no modifications to the truck except for a canopy and weathertech mats (you're welcome :p )

    Yes same thing.

Yes those and the reverse lights.

Srry have to ask because so many electrical issues are caused by aftermarket wiring and accessories and I don't want to go on a wild goose chase.

Ok, I will have to try unplugging the PNP and see what happens then. Do you think it's necessary to unplug the battery as well, as I've had people mention this can help reset things when troubleshooting.

Being a TRD, this has the factory tow package with 7 pin connector, correct?

If the reverse lights stay on with the range switch unplugged I’d be looking at the trailer socket for damage, corrosion, etc. You’ve got ignition power and reverse light power there, and a likely spot to have those short together.

No it's a simple on/off switch, there's no resets involved other than making sure the PNP switch is clocked correctly when installing it.

I can tell you for a fact my tow connection is corroded. Launching in salt water often... Let me go unplug that real quick. I already have a replacement on the shelf.

Well that solved it... stupid that I spent $130 on the genuine PNP replacement but oh well. Glad to have it fixed. for replacing my tow harness connection, can anyone tell me how to release the reusable ziptie holding the wire loom in place? I assume it is reusable.

I don’t think those ties are reusable, but you can usually clip the tie, pull the tail through (in the direction it was originally tightened) and then use a normal zip tie through that opening and around your harness.

If I saw a picture of it I could probably tell you.

Unfortunately I can't see it, I can only feel it with my fingers. That's why I can't figure it out. Haha

I see what the problem was. These tangs are touching. Well the whole thing needed to be replaced anyways, since I backed into something a while back and smashed the housing. It still worked but it was broken and also just hanging there since the mount was destroyed.

I'm trying to buy a replacement adapter, but all of the ones I see online have a female lead, mine is male. My dad actually bought me one meant for a tundra a while bac Does anyone have a source on a new one?
