I changed my oil two days ago. I used 6.1 quarts of oil. I decided to check the oil since it was so hard to see right after the change. I parked on a level surface after a 30 min drive, turned it off, took out the dipstick, waited ten minutes and checked the level with a clean dipstick. Is this oil level too high? Did I damage my engine? How much should I take out to get in between the dots? Thank you.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Is it Friday? Dude, you are good. That's about perfect. Relax. Maybe just do 6 quarts next time.

I normally put in 6.0 quarts and call it good. No need to buy an extra 1 qt for 0.1 or 0.2 extra. You'll be fine, just make sure you're on level ground when checking the dipstick.

I do 6.0 and its close. Remember, the low and high marks equal 1.5 qts so…. Not over full.

Check it about 6-8 more times and you'll be pretty damn close after you've wiped it clean each time. Seriously though, its about as close to perfect as you can get.

My first instinct was to grab my pitchfork and say its friday; but then I remembered you're actually in the minority of people who can actually read the level on their dipstick.

Both my 2023 V6 taco and 03 4runner V6 always had stupid dipsticks that are hard to read. Its okay as long as its now low or dark.

Put 6qts in for the first time ever since I bought the oil in a 12qt bag. Usually went with 5 and the revolving .5qt from the single qt bottle I keep in the hood. 113k and still running....

HOW were you able to get the dipstick to read so clean? That has to be the most easiest to read tacoma dipstick pull i've ever seen. Everytime i pull mine out to check, no matter the methods discussed in other threads it looks like a toddler sneezed on it with a mouthfull of oil.

Reading it cold is best. But if you need to check it while it’s warm, pull the dipstick out. Leave it out for about 5 to 10 minutes. Wipe it clean and insert it’ll come out just like the OP.
