I used a reputable place near me for the first time this year vs doing it myself with TurboTax. I wish I had started this a decade ago because DAMN it was easy. They cost more but they got me more back on returns.

Fuck GEICO. We were with them for over 20 years for cars, camper, houses, everything. Bought another car last year, got coverage and had the windshield die quickly as is normal in AZ. Went to make a claim and they comes back saying that it will be a $1000 deductible. New law passed and they said they no longer automatically cover windshields in AZ with no deductible and that I had to opt in before I made the claim. I gave them the one obvious option and they thought I was bluffing. Moved everything to Progressive. Homey D. Clown don’t play that…

I cannot understand the desire for "maximum refund". Any $$ paid to the IRS during the year that you did NOT have to pay is just a "no interest returned" loan to them, and you miss out on using that money during the year.

I much prefer getting a refund of $250-ish (if you owe too much because you rigged it too much the other way you pay penalties). But spending MY money all year long on MY priorities may just be something that I like ...

Instead of thinking “maximum refund” think “reducing the amount I owe”. They’re very useful for reducing the amount you owe.

My federal refund this year is $253. State says I owe $73, so the $253 at least covers that.

For my own sanity I just assumed it needs a rebuild and will end up costing more than the new upgraded unit all in…

If I do something I know is gonna bite me at the end of the year (selling stock for home improvement or something) I throw the usual withholding into an interest bearing account. Sure you pay tax on that too but now the "withholding" is making you some money instead of being in uncle Sam's pocket for free.

Taxes - I think it depends on situation. If you're just a couple with W2's the self done makes sense, paid for a CPA to do ours as a check on the TT method - said we were doing fine and I should continue doing them myself. When kids were in college, wife was 1099 consultant from multiple companies, ya, they are much better at doing the non-standard forms and reductions in taxable income.

I would really like a combined CPA and financial advisor, help with taxes for the best retirement planning. That seems like the ideal. Kinda medical doctor, nutritionist, personal trainer for the finances.

    FB marketplace is monkey pox.

Ive done curb alerts on there for used furniture, ect, that isnt worth selling but I dont want to trash
I advertise with a single picture:
"These items are on the curb for free at ____ address
I will not answer questions, deliver, hold for you or otherwise assist you in any way.
I will not respond to messages.
This post will be updated to reflect as items are picked up"

Every single time I get a dozen messages saying "I am a illiterate unemployed diabetic single mother of seven autistic amputee immigrant children,
could you please send me a half dozen pictures and the serial number, hold for a month then deliver thirty minutes away?"

It tends to be fairly accurate, and they rarely modify it Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.

If you can get through (and dont mind waiting on hold) you can call their office to ask. Flagstaff Ranger Station: (928) 526-0866)

My bet would be at least another week or two, we got some snow earlier this week.

Ive been out and about (on foot) in the general area, and there are still lingering snow drifts and mud.

And like every year there is a bunch of ruts and road damage from people driving through it.

December 15 thru April 15 just about everything is closed for “winter” regardless of snow conditions.

How un-American! I know I may get stuck, starve and die. Just makes one more Tacoma for the used-truck market!
