I went under the truck today looking for wiring issues to get the truck started. Found the ground that was bad, truck fires right up no problem.

However, while I was looking around underneath, I found a wiring connector that was not connected. I have looked everywhere but can't seem to find where it gets plugged into. The truck runs fine, and doesn't seem to have any noticeable issues, but I would really like to find where this guy goes.

It's located on the passenger side of the transmission. It seems to come from the same wiring that goes to the two O2 sensors (I think). That's as far as I can trace it back to. It looks like it should plug into something on the transmission, or maybe transfer case?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is taken from underneath on the passenger side looking up...

Took the boots off and it had enough slack where I was able to pull it through to get a better photo...

I would say probably reverse light switch, if you post wire colors I could tell you for sure.

It's been a while since I had mine out and it's an '03, but I definitely recall two and at least one of them is mounted on top of the transmission/transfer case, I almost missed it on re-assembly. Feel around up there to see if you can find it's mate.

Sorry, finally had some free time to get back under the truck. The two wires are a white wire, and a red wire with a thin black line running along it.
Ive been looking and feeling around but still cannot find where it is supposed to connect to

Best I can find it's the 4wd detection switch connector if the truck has the 4-2-4 select switch.

That switch would be on the transfer case somewhere.

I have the j shift transfer case, no switch, and my 4wd sensor is connected.
Also, if it is the reverse light switch, then I don't see where it would connect to? My reverse lights work no problem

Only other thing i can think of is that someone previously replaced the transfer case and now it is missing the 4lo sensor? Or possibly removed and plugged up the sensor location. There is, what looks like, just a bolt head in that spot right now

The only things I can find that would be in that area with that connector are for the 4wd system with the pushbutton shift so I guess if everything works I have to conclude it's and unused connector on your truck.

Edit: I looked and the L4 position switch uses that connector but the wire colors should be White/Black and Green.

It could be the connector that those of us with push button 4wd unplug to have 2wd low.

I've combed over every diagram for a 97 Tacoma and there is no match for that connector with those wire colors but if I go to a 97 Toyota T100 it matches the L4 Detection Switch for the ABS ECU.
My hypothesis is it's something leftover from the T100 that isn't used on a Tacoma.

    Thanks for the help/info.

The vehicle in question is actually a 97 t100. Same engine and transmission as the taco so I figured I would post here, you all have helped me out a lot over the years with my 96 taco and my 97 t100
The t100 forums are very quiet.
Either way, still cannot find where it connects to, but yes, that does seem to be the cable

Ah I wish you would have clarified that, I would have found it straight away lol. I was looking at Tacoma diagrams then not finding anything I started looking at models similar to Tacoma's since I have seen where there are connectors that carry over across models that aren't used.

BTW the first diagram I posted in post #5 was incorrect, I had 03 in my head for some reason. Been busy helping people with electrical issues tonight lol.

Thanks for the help...I will continue my search, don't know why its so hard to find the connector

I did find it, see post 9 above. I didn't realize you had a T100.

I see the diagram, but can't find the spot on the actual truck

Best I can do, looks like it may only be used on A/T models.
