I see almost no issues here. So if anyone has some, please leave a comment. Even if its minor, i wanted to try old threads when 3rd gen was brand new, like 2016-2017 but couldnt

The whole truck is an issue.
It's worse on Fridays too. Weird.

Are you sure you are reading THIS board???

When I started reading, I expected to see tacos explode around me at every turn...

Boards are where all issues are vented... for anything...

Tacos are still one of the more reliable vehicles for sale in this country...

The truck is fine. Fill it with oil and gas from time to time and worry about more important things like what's for breakfast.

Yea that is true, I actually had that in 03 4runner too, although it never affected engine power and acceleration.

I know truck is reliable guys, but I was wondering if there were any issues that people didn't write up, like 2016-2017 models maybe?

There are hundreds of threads across several topics.

You can't really search by 'tell me bad stuff about 16 and 17 models'. But you can search by specific topic.

Try transmission, leaking differential, out of round brake drums, head unit rebooting, 3rd brake light leak, wind noise, CPS failure.

Also understand this was 7-8 years ago. For the low % of afflicted units, most would have been repaired long ago.

Bought my 17 with 77xxx on it , did the usual maintenance on it . Plugs , fluids and filters and runs like a brand new 1. Service records showed rotors resurfaced and regular oil changes done at the dealership. I’m the 3rd owner , certified preowned from a Toyota dealer.

I had a new ‘16. Sure back then it had most of the early teething issues that have been shared repeatedly here. Those were annoying, then corrected, and I liked it so much, that I bought my ‘18.

My best advice is don’t assume just because “cracked coolant pipe” and “front timing cover leak” are popular topics here, that they affect the majority of trucks Toyota sold. In fact, while it’s little consolation to someone who had either problem, the odds of yours having those issues are between slim and none. In other words, research here, but separate the anecdotal mishaps & subjective feedback from the statistically relevant.

Case in point: Consumer Reports initially placed the then new ‘16-‘17 Tacomas on its avoid list, (and many people here trolled and generally acted like the sky was falling….) But unsurprisingly, today CR highly recommends those same years as reliable used trucks.

    Good luck.

    2016 here, 122,000 km , 3 issues I've had

    1. Door weather stripping noise with heavy cross winds (fixed with clear tubing to beef up)
    2. Heated seat failure ( removed bad connector and soldered new wires)
    3. Front body mount bushings ( replaced with poly bushings)

All cheap easy fixes, all other issues I've had were
chasing vibrations and issues from installing 2" lift so self induced problems

I had a handful of first year TSBs to address but after those my truck has only required regular maintenance. I did have a braking vibration at 40K miles. New PowerStop rotors and pads made the vibration go away.

First year problems: transmission came one quart low on fluid, weeping rearend, CPS, trip meter random resets.
