There's a 4.10 elock diff available here in MT for $650obo from a 04 taco just like mine.

    My taco has 4.10 gears.

How hard is that to swap out?

What should I offer price wise?

Is it easy to test the solenoid?

Thanks. Sorry if it's been asked to death. I saw a lot of swaps but it included axles too.

The e-locker diff (3rd member) and regular open diff are not interchangeable, at least not easily. You wouldn’t be able to just swap an e-locker 3rd member into your unlocked axle housing and hook it up.
You could source an e-locker axle housing, or get a fabricated housing, but at that point you’d be money ahead to just install an ARB or Eaton locker in your stock diff. Yukon zip locker or Spartan locker are also options.

Do yourself a favor, skip the headaches and buy an Eaton E locker.

I was asking a similar question a couple months ago and was encouraged to go the Eaton E-locker route. Have had the locker about a month now and really have only had time to test it in the driveway for functionality, versus actually go off-road and try it out.

Planning to do so later today, but initial impressions of how quick it engages/disengages certainly makes it seem superior to the factory E-locker, and what just about everyone with the 8.4" open rear diff should look into over the factory E-locker.
