Way to avoid engine code with cold air intake

So cold air intakes often can cause engine codes. Is there a way to avoid this? I mean they’re always maf sensor codes. Like it’ll say “high voltage output maf sensor” or smth.

 

do you know what intake you plan to run and what year and engine your tacoma is?

 

2009 2.7 L and I don’t know the intake just have a picture.

The factory intake is a cold air intake, why put a warm air intake on it?

Anything that modifies airflow through the mass airflow sensor is going to skew the MAF signal because the sensor is calibrated to the diameter and geometry of the stock intake system, the only way to correct for such a modification is with a tune.

 

personally i wouldn't put a unknown intake on my truck, and like Dm93 said thats no longer a boxed intake so your increasing temps. if you cant get a afe boxed intake or a trd your just losing performance for induction volume.

 

Reinstall stock intake. Boom, no codes. Aftermarket "cold air intakes" are scams at least in relation to our Tacomas.

 

Installing that thing is worse for your truck than the factory intake. Return it to Oriellys and get your money back.

Any changes to the air box or intake tube require the MAF tables to be scaled for proper readings.
Also, you’re pulling hot air from under the hood, you won’t gain power it is a waste of money.

 

Your MAF sensor circuit is specifically calibrated for flow particular to the intake air velocity. You change the geometry you change the velocity profile. Not much to do but a get a new tune that takes that into account. Seems like a lot of screwing around for something that does not need to be replaced and will not provide any gains.

 

I understand snorkels, they exist for specific reasons that make sense in certain conditions, but I don't understand changing intakes from one that brings in colder air from outside the engine compartment to one that brings in hot air from the engine compartment.

It's all in your head unfortunately. There's no measurable performance gain from an intake or exhaust on the 3.5L. Sounds better maybe but that's it.

 

Happen to have the dyno charts to show those power gains? You’d be the first in all the testing to show actual results if so.
