Using 4th keeps the RPM's up and doesn't bog at the slightest hill.

Umm.. what's the price of tea in China?

Like I said.. Hills and climbs absolutely wreck the 3rd gen mpg numbers due to our low torque at low(er) RPMs. it's a fact.

Fwiw: I have >105,000 behind the Tacoma 3.5 driving in most road environments and elevations.

2020 stock OR. I drive 10 minutes downhill at 15-20 mph and then 20 min winding highway at 55mph to town, reverse that for the trip home. I have never seen it over 16mpg even right after a fillup. Just did a highway trip and even all highway at 65 for multiple hours between fillups I was in the low 16s. Context 100% is important, but 20+ mpg is crazy!

This was on a trip from So Cal to Mammoth. Last Summer, from home to Cody WY, Jackson Hole, and back, I got the same. Mine seems to do its best at 70 or so, and if I manage gears and speed over passes.

I fill up every two weeks and check at the station with fill ups.
I do 19.5-20.5 since I bought it in Nov. The cluster reading is really close to what I actually get, 50% Hwy 50% city.

Debadged, decals removed ARE V series Camper Shell, RallyArmor mud flaps I’m old, my truck is boring
    Cincinnati, Ohio to Elgin, SC
Stopped and got food and filled up in Kentucky (maybe Tennessee?)
    IMG_5145.jpg
Then drove all the way to Elgin, SC
    IMG_5147.jpg

Proof below, only took 15 gallons to go almost 350 miles. AC was on and had camper shell on the truck. Used 89 octane. Pump stopped at 14.8 or so and I kept pulling the handle because I couldn’t believe it was full.

For those who do not believe 20m.p.g.+ is possible, if you ever rode with me, you'd be saying, I drive like an old man !

MPG is so very dependent on driving style. Accelerating slowly and coasting to stops are beneficial.

Esp when in gear. Won't hurt the engine/transmission and you'll use next to no fuel.

I just got back from Ormond Beach, the trip is 26 miles. Twenty miles of that is on I-95, I usually drive between 80 to 87 MPH and my truck reads 19.3 MPG.

Just for the hell of it I drove 70 to 77 miles per hour tonight on my way home. When I got home it read 22.3 MPG. I guess it might add up over time to slow down a little bit. It was hard having great multitudes of cars flying by me in the left lane.
