I know what you're saying, but it also means these trucks are way overvalued at the moment.

Could be yeah. Don’t know if it’ll go down.
I’m not so sure the truck actually provides that value, versus people simply slapped that sticker on it.
Like going to the grocery store and writing $30 on a banana.

probably could’ve got an old 2500 Cummins or Duramax for the same or less and have an actually capable motor depending on year.

Valuations are relative to.. things we don't talk about here at TW forums, like er cough *monetary policy* cough cough. Given that wages, pensions, and Soc. Security COLA adjustments seem to be only heading up year by year -- I think it's unlikely that used Tacos in good working order are going to come down in price.

What's the value of a vehicle with a strong reputation for reliability?

Maybe I did not read right, or my math is bad. Apparently, "trade ins" are done different in your area, and my end. If brand new 2023 was listed 41k with $8,000 trade in for BMW, it would be $33,000, at my dealer.
Also, there plenty used Tacoma trucks at a used car lot near my work. The prices that's listed, can buy brand new.:D

Personally I think those metrics you mentioned follow inflation, but you're right, some gov programs will negatively affect it as well.

I don't mean that Tacos are priced high now, and will come down later. I'm referring to the fact that Tacos and other off road lifestyle-ish vehicles are very popular right now, so they fetch a premium (over their tangible value). Compared to sedans, minivans, etc. Of course all cars are more expensive as a rule compared to 4 years ago, for obvious reasons.

I had the option to buy a 17 Ram 2500 quad cab diesel with a manual transmission and I passed. The seats were unpleasant, 79k on it and I felt the seat frames, just felt cheaply built (worse than tacomas) and it was like driving a dump truck. Way more truck than I need.

I'm an ICU/PICC nurse full-time and do small/medium landscape projects for people on the side. A small pickup that I can put shrubs/trees in the back of is why I chose the Tacoma and it fits the kid component. My wife has a newish Highlander hybrid so we have the road trip car covered.

A Tacoma isn't perfect, the financing pretty much sucks but it's better than having the current BMW where every time I drive it, I wonder "what's going to break next".

    I appreciate all the input!

It's terrible for driving in the city/hospital parking garages

If price is forcing your decision then the 2010 you described is not a bad choice. You are replacing a BMW wagon for a Tacoma. Why? A couple years ago I sold my old BMW which also had problems so I understand. I sold it and bought a brand new Subaru Outback wilderness. Except for actual off-roading that thing is far superior to a tacoma.

Manual Cummins Diesal is rare, and I get not your interest. But my case, if the truck frame is solid, engine not plenty “blow by,” and 4wd works, person not selling for ridiculous price, I grab it.:D
It is terrible parking for Tacoma in places like WalMart, Home Depot, Costco.;)

For me my truck has a value to me despite being so basic that most won't have interest in it. It's all I need and if I replace it I can't buy another regular cab without going back at least 10 years so nothing almost new or new in the Toyota fam.

Second part..immeasurable. Mine cost me some good money last year but I did it without hesitation knowing it's solid.

yeah I dunno. Used to be new vehicle short supply COVID so it went up.

doesn’t seem to have gone back down. Nothing else has.

could be other things too. Could be newer vehicles not being good enough to make people want them. So they’d rather keep old one.
High prices for the new ones preventing entry.

Or economy how it is, not just everybody sitting there with a spare $50k burning a hole into their pocket to get a new vehicle no sweat.

    that looks amazing.
It’s wearing those “TW Tow Mirrors” better…

I always heard best diesel is Chevy LBZ, around 2004 Cummins, or old 7.3 Ford esp manual

for one to not have DEF which I think came around 2007
But technically I think DEF system still gets covered by federal 8/80 emissions warranty…

no idea if those older models are smaller in the way cars tend to progress over time larger newer ex: new Porsche 911 is bigger than previous 911

LBZ is supposedly one of the only ones that doesn’t end up needing the cab pulled off on a yearly basis
