When first starting my truck, if I move the temperature control knob to Max AC the air recirculation button lights up and comes on, as it should. However, when I later move the temp knob off of Max AC, the air recirculation mode button still remains lit up instead of turning off as it should. Then if I manually turn the air recirculation button off, I can redo the above initial steps (move to max AC, air recirculation button light comes back on, move off max AC) the air recirculation button then DOES go off. So somehow it’s getting stuck when initially turning the truck on but then works as designed after I manually turn off the air recirculation button once I’m going.

Anyone else have this issue or any ideas on how to fix?

Not all trim levels have the same heat & A/C controls.
You should also note the differences in the controls between p.332 vs p.338 in the owner's manual (for my 2021). I suspect the p.332 applies to an SR and p.338 applies to higher level trims.
My experience has been (TRD OR AC) that when the A/C is turned on it ALWAYS defaults to Recirc. Doesn't have to be at Max A/C. I usually just turn it off.
From where I sit, the behavior is normal.

I think this is just how it works on these trucks. My 18 does the same thing and has since new.

FWIW, the system in my 2014 works the same as outlined above. (Selecting MAX A/C on the temp dial activates the A/C and "recirc" mode.) I usually initially leave the temp dial in MAX and manually turn the recirc off and open the windows for a few minutes (to force fresh air through the cabin) when the truck has been sitting in the sun all day. This means I get the scenario you outlined where the recirc light goes out automatically when I adjust the temp. It also helps to avoid leaving it in recirc all day and not getting fresh air forced in. The manual step (turning recirc off) seems to change the logic of the system. I think this may have been changed around the time of the 2nd Gen refresh.

Some systems will also set the fan speed automatically to "high" when /MAX AC is selected.

This is how it was designed, how my GF's 4R Auto works, and any other modern vehicle I have driven.

The number of responses in this thread from people who didn’t read the title, didn’t understand the question or both is sort of impressive…

    How so?
Title: "Air Recirculation Not Turning Off on Own"
Question: "Anyone else have this issue or any ideas on how to fix?"
What is there to fix if this is the way it's intended to operate?

If you didn’t design it yourself you can’t claim that it is not working as designed. You can however claim that it is not working as you would have designed it. :)

Just to clarify: Recirc is supposed to stay on the fist time you disable A/C, but turn off everytime after that?
Everyone keeps telling OP that recirc turns on automatically when A/C is turned on.
He’s clearly aware that it turns on with A/C. The post and question seems pretty straightforward to me, but I can’t test mine to confirm it functions the same way because I have different climate controls.

If the AC is set to max I don't think the recirculate will turn off. Turn it one notch warmer and it should turn off recirculate.

His video shows it functioning this way the second time, but apparently the first time he does this it stays on?

Looks like it's functioning as it should in the video. It turns off when max AC is disengaged.

Right. So the consensus is that recirc shuts off after you manually disengage it the first time. I understand why OP is confused

That sounds about right. The second time the recirc button has to be manually pushed to shut it off. Long day, sorry for the confusion.

I do this and the recirculate stays on and does not turn off (typically) - however, once I do move it one notch above Max A/C, if I manually press the recirculation button to turn it off and then move it back and forth from Max AC to a notch above Max AC, the recirculation light will cut on and off on its own without me having to manually press it. It does seem to work intermittently- as sometimes on drives it will cut recirculation mode off on the first click up from Max AC. So the inconsistencies made me wonder if it was some weird electrical issue. It’s not the end of the world, just a small thing that annoys me bc it is inconsistent.
